You'll have the good taste to shut up and smile now that it's evident we've been violating your Title IX rights for a decade

This email was sent out to the families and girls on the Eagan (Minnesota) High School softball team on the eve of their quarterfinal playoff game against Champlin Park, a team with a male player. (My previous post covers the federal lawsuit three softball players have filed against the Minnesota Attorney General and the Minnesota State High School League).

Girls and their families are asked to comport themselves with “class and integrity” because it would definitely be vulgar and disingenuous to express rightful outrage that people whose jobs it is to protect girls’ right to safe and fair sport have in fact sold those rights out to any boy who says the magic words—I identify as a girl. And that was done ten years ago! Very quietly! It was all going so well! Girls didn’t even make a stink about it! Maybe they didn’t even know about it! And if they did, they were shamed into silence! And now this! Our man Jason Elias couldn’t even say what the “added attention” was, but he would very much appreciate it if girls and their families would continue to smile and make nice, as if they didn’t know that the lawmakers and commissioners and sports administrators couldn’t give a rats ass about female athletes and their hard work. A nauseating swill of gaslighting, threats, and obsequious begging, Elias double crossed his fingers and toes that he could just get past this one awkward moment in which all those female athletes and all their parents and aunts and uncles watched in real life, in real time the result of cowardly politicians trembling in terror before the trans lobby. Yeah, and where are those politicians now? Now lowly Elias has to run interference and try to smooth things over because politicians could not kindly and gently tell a boy he needed to compete on the boys’ team. Now, sweating, Elias was busy crafting emails begging the very people he was complicit in selling out to shut up about the fact that their most fundamental rights, rights enshrined in federal law, rights based on the reality of their biology, were given away to a boy. All of them, every girl, deemed undeserving of girls’ sports to prioritize the feelings of one boy. After asking people he had profoundly f****d over to stay silent, keep smiling, and forget about the whole thing, his final debasement—let’s go Cats!

P.S. As it turned out, some parents ignored Elias’ request not to wear shirts that brazenly supported female sports for female athletes, and some spoke with Outkick and Alpha News. Ultimately, the very talented Eagan team did let their play on the field speak for itself: they lost to Champlion Park 5-0, as male pitcher “Marissa” Rothenberger hurled 21 scoreless innings in the playoffs, and led Champlin Park to the final championship game.
