To answer your question: No, because the disabled people would include men, and probably more men than women, and no one would want to disadvantage disabled men.
But don't you love this: "It’s just common sense that boys have measurable physical advantages over girls. It’s pure biology but they will argue against it with ideology."
So much that happens lately is mind-boggling; and the pro-trans activists' vicious retaliations against anyone who dares question them, not least. Reality loses again.
Thanks for raising awareness on this issue! We need a lot more of it.
Trans-identified males who have gone through male puberty are no longer allowed to participate in women's Olympic track & field and swimming events. The NCAA will soon be obliged to follow Olympic guidance.
Not only is it unfair to the girls for this to continue, but also unfair to the trans-identified males who are being misled about their future eligibility.
And of course so many of the people who defend this heinous practice are the “follow the science” crowd. Including, sadly, two of my FB-friend fellow science-PhD moms, with degrees from some of the most prestigious universities in the country. But of course both of them have trans-identified kids whom the moms have fully affirmed. So sad.
Until the adults in the room stand together for the female athletes, this will go on. Do the Walk Away. Walk Away if a male steps up to the starting line at a girls event. Everyone, athletes and parents, do the Walk Away and leave the male to compete against himself with his Munchausen mother watching.
As this mom, and many others have pointed out, the Walk Away is neither possible nor proven effective. Most parents and athletes are unaware that a boy is even in the race, and the few that may know cannot, in the moments before the race, communicate and galvanize such a boycott to the potentially hundreds of people at the event. Furthermore in the instances when teams have forfeited or refused to play against a team with a male on it, the forfeiting team, even the entire school, has been punished. Rules need to be changed to maintain the girls/women's category for those born female (or at least those who have not gone through male puberty), as has been done at the international level by World Athletics, World Rugby, World Aquatics and other major sports organizations.
The rules won't change until the adults act. Adults who agree with you are figuring out how to act. Please try to be encouraging of that.
Walk Away can be effective in conjunction with awareness-raising and coordination/information sharing, but the latter needs to come first in order for the former to be effective.
The only kind of female is one that is born female. Whether or not a male has gone through puberty has nothing to do with it. It is very possible to have a countrywide boycott of female athletic events until sports are once again separated by sex. In the meantime, female teams can get together unofficially to continue to practice. I would even go so far as to suggest female athletes around the globe get together and boycott the Olympics and other international events. Many would argue that the athletes have trained for this and it's asking too much. Sometimes some have to sacrifice in order to make things better for the future.
Excellent interview, Sarah. That mother makes so much good sense. It would be great if the people who run those organising bodies were prepared to give similar interviews - I wonder if it’s worth your trying them. Even if they don’t respond, at least you’ve tried.
You've given me a good idea. Maybe the Maine Athletic Association would have some insights they'd like to share about Title IX and girls' right to fair sport
Yet another example of females being expected to subordinate their needs to the needs of males. As usual.
And a question: if an able-bodied athlete 'identified as' disabled, would they be allowed to participate in a race for disabled people?
