Here’s how the NYT mangled the story:

By Tariq Panja

March 26, 2026, 9:19 a.m. ET

“The International Olympic Committee banned transgender athletes from competing in the women’s category at the Olympics, after telling its members to conduct mandatory genetic testing for women’s competitions.”

The article:

1. Falsely implies that all transgender athletes, including the female ones, will be “banned” from women’s sports

2. Weirdly implies that transgender status can be determined with genetic testing

3. Falsely implies that transgender athletes are being “banned” by virtue of their transgender status, when in fact just the male ones are being excluded on the basis of their sex.

4. In fact, males with DSDs, who are not trans identifying, comprise the bulk of problematic cases at the Olympic level. Why is the NYT billing this as trans issue at all?

This inaccurate, politicized language from the press:

1. Strengthens the highly debatable belief shared by bleeding heart Democrats that trans people’s “rights” are under an orchestrated assault

2. Reinforces the gender cult’s main dogma that gender identity SHOULD take priority over sex, always and everywhere

This is when you realize that journalism, the Fourth Estate, is just a propaganda arm of gender ideology. We really do need the Fourth Estate. Unfortunately, it has been hijacked

No one's sex is 'assigned.' It is simply recorded. Please stop using their language.

Reported is more accurate, agreed. DSDs may be the only instance when the ambiguity of genitalia may make sex "assigned." You're right--it's incorrectly recorded as female

Thank you. I think we should resist using their corrupted language at all costs. No one's sex is assigned; it is simply recorded. They want to claim sex is assigned; no, it is not.

How about incorrectly assessed, with that incorrect assessment recorded.

I think the assessment part is always preliminary to the recording, and in pushing back against the "assigned" part we have not noticed that really what their language does is it pretends that assessment isn't part of the process.

The sex of a newborn is not assessed; it's observed and recorded. Overall health is assessed using the Apgar scale, and then that is recorded. If there's a malformation of the genitalia, an assessment would then be done.

Assessment is indeed what happens when something is observed. We just don't notice it when the assessment is immediate and easy.

Observation is noting (the sex in this case) and recording, assessment is a systematic evaluation. This is why we have 2 different words. I observe a downed tree blocking the woodland trail, then I do an assessment about the best way to go around.

It's crazy how quickly the translingua infiltrated the language and embedded itself like a hidden tick. The toughest one, imo, to get people to stop using is "biological" male or female.

“Biological,” sadly, is necessary, given today's language usage. The words “female” and “woman” have been high jacked.

BeadleBlog's avatar

Absolutely not necessary. You just have to do it.

Associated Press used to be reputable. It has become a farce.

Caster Semenya has gone to court many times, and through exhaustive medical and legal procedures has been demonstrated to be male. That’s why can no longer compete in women’s sports. Despite what he claims, his internal testes make him not a woman.
