Yes, Mara Yamauchi's questions were rational, logical and on point. The anti-science dogma that is permeating sports currently will be looked back on with derision. The IOC has tarnished its reputation permanently as a bastion of unfairness supported by lies and propaganda. it is no longer the global arena for sports that it once was.
Mara’s measured and consistent efforts are invaluable in this cause to allow all women access to fair sport. This fight has repercussions into our daily lives and is worth every moment.
The IOC may have a wee problem coming up with the Olympics in 2028 being in Los Angeles, and with the Donald being president elect. I don’t think he would allow a repeat of this disastrous event.
I see my last sentence has disappeared somewhere. It should have said “I don’t think he would permit males of any sort participating in female events at the Olympics and will ensure that doesn’t happen.”
Men pretending to be women are mentally ill and need psychiatric help. not enablers or codependents. Why are otherwise responsible adults ignoring the ill person's obvious condition in favor of WOKE opinions about indefensible gender delusions? I thought society should be sensitive to and empathic towards the mentally ill? Shouldn't we be caring for these individuals instead of encouraging their dysphoria?
It is taboo, vietato, prohibido, interdit, verboten for anyone to impugn the mental health of anyone who claims to identify as a sex or gender that is contradicted by their sex organs and gametes. This fiction and many others are on full display in the game of Emperor's New Clothes that is trans activism.
This is the most frustrating thing about the view from the left, the sheer denial of reality. This is the inherent enabling codependency. Rational people (the boy), can clearly see the naked truth (naked emperor).
Great letter and article. I simply think this boxer is a liar and a cheat. Regardless of what problem of sexual development he has, he almost certainly went through male puberty and, unless he’s simple, he knew then something was off. Tests must have revealed what it was and since then he’s simply been lying to everyone and cheating in sport, helped by others who behave, largely, as if they’d like biological women out of sport altogether.
Fantastic letter by Mara, and terrific article by Sarah.
I still can't get my head around the fact these things are happening in 2024. A lot, and I mean a LOT of people aught to be hanging their heads in shame.
Fantastic letter, I’m actually shocked that the Oxford Union even invited him. He has been backed into a corner , he thought he could keep up the lies, little did he know that journalists are good (sometimes) of seeking out the truth. What is more disturbing is the lack of response by IOC to apologise to women and to the women that were put at risk of brain injury, what about the fact that everyone has ignored the other DSD case in the boxing ring during the Olympics. Also, anyone with a vogue subscription should cancel it like they are continuing to cancel women by celebrating a male as a female.
Same. I did see the Taiwanese boxer had done some shilling for period products (the heck?!), but yes, maybe he is smart enough to take his medal and keep a low profile. And also, as I learned from my previous post, East Asia is literally a world apart from the U.S. and Europe.
Good article, the only thing I'd quibble with is this sentence on the Oxfoird Union - "...the Oxford Union is very discerning about their guests and dedicated to open inquiry. They’ve built a sterling reputation for inviting high profile, often controversial speakers, heavyweights in the arena of thought exchange..." - hmm. Not really imo. The OU is a a debating club for posh kids, for the most part it's an extension of the University Conservative Society where ambitious wealthy young members of the establishment get a 3-year dry run at the churning out the kind of posturing nonsense we get in Parliament here in the UK during Prime Minister's Questions. One of the skills of the future ruling class aspirant is spotting good clickbait and inviting Khelif comes under that category. The place has zero intellectual credibility, has more-or-less nothing to do with the University, and is just a cos-play opportunity (officers wear white tie and tailcoats, guests black) for privileged little twerps before they join the real thing and make a mess of the real world.
Thanks for that insider view on the OU. I wrote that sentence based on their chest-thumping website, and by looking through their program of other speakers. Khelif certainly qualifies as clickbait, but he's still a strange pick if OU leans conservative. Maybe they were hoping Khelif would be drawn to their rich kid facade (which he was) and would out himself at their event. For his part, I think Khelif was expecting a rerun of Semenya's many interviews full of sympathetic softball questions, including his revelation of internal testicles that did not elicit even a blink from the "reporter." And he is right to expect that from the media. Men who compete in women's sports routinely waltz through interviews with a few pat lies and a smile
Yes it's insider-ish, I went to Oxford University and studied politics, albeit a long time ago but I had very little to do with the Union, in fact I only went to the actual physical location of the place decades later when I was working in Parliament and was astonished to find it was a real Parliament-in-miniature, same architecture, same decoration, same attire. Literally a training school for the next generation of the Establishment. The apparent contradiction with its association with conservativism doesn't quite play here in the UK, and for two reasons that spring to my mind (there are probably more); (1) because under David Cameron the UK Conservative Party cloaked its reactionary economics in social liberalism and enthusiastically lunged for meaningless apparently "progressive" causes like gay marriage and transgenderism in order to help it woo easy-going boomer voters - and I presume this faction of the party is still toddling along and, (2) because one good route to establishment roles is to show clickbaity skills - our last Prime Minister but 2, Boris Johnson, was a master of shoddy, bullshit "journalism" featuring made-up stories about the EU etc and this was his route into politics. I can imagine their website is indeed highly chest-thumpy, it's arguable that 100 years ago or more they genuinely were an important part of the political and intellectual fabric of Britain, but they're a tawdry moth-eaten remnant now.
Oh, that explains the glaring spelling error in OU's term card, which states that misinformation about Khelif’s gender and eligibility to compete “lead Khelif [sic: led] to file an online harassment case … “
Was wondering how such an elite institution full of high achievers had missed that one.
To be clear, it's likely Khelif is male with a Disorder of Sexual Development, not a trans-identified male. It's true, it's not Khelif's fault that he was born with this genetic anomaly, and it could be that he didn't know the exact nature of the disorder, but it's certain since he never got periods and went through male rather than female puberty (facial hair, deeper voice, greater muscle mass), that he knew something was off. As did his coach and agent and everyone around him. He has known about his DSD (XY chromosomes, internal testes, androgen sensitivity, affects only males) since at least 2022, has known that he is male with male advantage, but the IOC helped him cover up those results. So, even though he was born with this disorder, he had a choice to stop competing in the female category, and made the choice not to. In that way, males with DSDs and trans-identified males are alike—they both bring male advantage into the female category. Khelif can no longer claim ignorance of this fact
Helen Joyce wrote the following quote, I think she nails it: “when it comes to eligibility for female sports, it makes no difference whether a male person thought he was female because of a DSD, or whether he chooses to identify as female because of his wishes, feelings or desires. The entire point of the female category is to exclude male sporting advantage, and the details of why a particular male person seeks entry are not relevant: he doesn’t belong there.”
Anyone who believes that trans women (or other men) should be allowed to compete against biological women in most sports or that they belong in women's restrooms, locker rooms and prisons is either cognitively impaired or intellectually dishonest.
Who at the IOC is the principal trans ally responsible for the reckless "passport sex" policy? His, her or their name and photo should be legion so they cannot easily escape their notoriety.
Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, was out front repeatedly claiming they (the IOC) had no way of determining sex other than the marker on his passport and the fact that he'd always competed in the female category. Except of course, in the instances when his sex verification tests (cheek swabs) showed XY chromosomes and he was banned from International Boxing Association events. Thomas Bach will be stepping down as president of the IOC as of the end of the year. There are seven candidates for that position. One we should keep our eyes on is Morinari Watanabe, who is on the current IOC Boxing Task Force which no doubt had plenty to do with allowing Khelif to fight in the women's category, though they had evidence he is male. https://olympics.com/ioc/president-election-candidates/mr-morinari-watanabe
Excellent write up
The Oxford Union should invite Thomas Bach to answer these questions.
Oh, that's a great idea!

The IOC has always been corrupt and dishonest - now they're proving that they're deeply misogynistic as well.

I don't think the president can do anything about that.
He can revoke visas for providing false information (ie female instead of male) at the very least.
You’d be surprised.
Three cheers for Yamauchi, Kremlev, and Barker! Once again: a brilliant and maddening dispatch.
Men pretending to be women are mentally ill and need psychiatric help. not enablers or codependents. Agree completely. Everything points to Khelif being a male with 5-ARD, like Caster Semenya. Men out of women’s sports!

Are you referring to the Taiwanese boxer? I’ve wondered about this myself- why has the focus been on Khelif only?

Who knows, maybe because his fight was first ? Anyone else know why?

When enumerating the media's transgressions, let's not overlook the insinuations that Russia was behind the effort to expose Khelif as being male.
Gender ideology, like all lies, can neither withstand intelligent scrutiny nor honest and open debate.
