Because of that incident, the nine-year-old I know is cooled on running the race this year. Not fun. Because that event recognized and awarded a kid who cheated. They didn’t care about cheating, which, though my young athlete couldn’t articulate it, showed the race organizers didn’t respect the kids or the event enough to ensure fairness.

Kids understand intimately that ANY sporting event, ANY competition, even a fun run, has to adhere to rules, to basic standards of fairness, or else it’s not fun. How many times have you heard adults, particularly those advocating for boys who identify as girls to be able to be able to participate in the girls category, say that kids’ sports are just about participation? An obvious obfuscation, since virtually every kid ever born can participate in the fun run, t-ball, 8U soccer. What those adults mean by “participation” is that, kids’ sports are not important, adherence to the rules is not important, fairness is not important, but what is important is that some kids be able to do whatever they want to. Some kids should be able to choose what category they want to participate in. “Participation” means no rules. Do whatever you want. Run three-quarters of the race while everyone else runs the whole thing. And take the award. They have replaced kids’ sports with a free-for-all affirmation exercise. Which is inherently disrespectful of children.

Children—eight, nine years old—they know this is bogus bullshit. It’s not a game or a sporting event. It’s certainly not fun. And they will decline to participate.

As a post script, since most nine-year-olds in public school are already indoctrinated into gender ideology—the kid they knew as Charles, a boy, they must now call Charlie, because he’s actually a girl—it’s doubtful they would see boys participating in girls’ sports as cheating. This ABC News article is remarkable because it calls out two men (and the article calls them men) as cheaters for running and winning awards in the women’s category of the Two Oceans Marathon. As if this has not been happening for more than a decade, when they’ve been calling it “inclusion.”

ABC News clearly stating the sex of the men, and identifying it as cheating, tells you this was not about “trans women.” In fact, two men used the bib numbers of two women they knew who had entered the race but were unable to run it. The men did not identify as women, but rather just used a female friend’s bib and didn’t think through that they were registered in the women’s category.

Here’s the important part: Using this incident and the recent restriction of the women’s category to females only by the IOC, Two Oceans Marathon officials have, to their great credit, also restricted their women’s category to females only. They will not be verifying every one of the 16,000 entries with a cheek swab—for everyone who enters in the open (not elite) category, it’s still honor system, as it’s always been. Since the race officials have clearly stated their policy of sex-separated male and female categories, they expect runners to sign up in their correct sex category. BUT since they have stated that policy, if a man, for whatever reason—using a woman’s bib or self-IDing as a woman—was identified by whatever means, and particularly if that man won an award in the women’s category, he would face disqualification and banning from the event for two years. There will be no genital checks, for the love of god. Race officials have simply respected fairness for all runners by having a policy of sex-separated (and within sex, age) categories. They expect runners to show the same respect by following those rules. As simple, straightforward and fair as that is, Two Oceans Marathon is very much in the minority with that policy.

The NYC Marathon, for example, has an “inclusive” transgender policy, based on self-ID for all open (non-elite) entrants. They offer a nonbinary category but clearly state that “transgender” runners may enter according to their identity. By having this policy, NYC Marathon officials are prioritizing the desire of men to affirm their feminine identity over fairness for the approximately 25,000 female runners. To them, affirming a few men’s false beliefs about themselves is more important than respecting ALL women’s right to an all-female category. NYC Marathon officials know it is unfair for men to compete in the women’s category but they have turned a sports event, an athletic competition, into an affirmation exercise.

Two Oceans Marathon respected the reality of sex and fairness that is at the very foundation of sports, and defended the sex boundary around the female category. The two men admitted their mistake, and accepted the punishment, while the two women they displaced from the top 10 were awarded their correct position. (Of course, all the thousands of women after 10th place also moved up two places).

If men—just men, for whatever reason—enter the NYC Marathon, or almost any marathon in the U.S., in the women’s category and happen to place in the top 10, they will be given a women’s award and a woman’s place. Instead of calling out men as cheaters, the media will hail the “inclusivity” of the NYC Marathon, and the bravery of “trans women.”

Men competing in the women’s category—is it cheating or is it inclusion? Would ABC News have used that headline—men cheating in the women’s category—if those men had claimed feminine identities and run in the NYC Marathon?

Call me obsessed—I prefer to think of it as “sane” or “curious about how exactly the entire world lost its collective mind”—but since most women are still affected by the Afghanistan produced by the IOC’s 23-year bout of slavering male mania, such that major media framed that organization’s deliverance from evil to the sunlight of women’s sports for women as “restricting trans rights,” it seems reasonable to treat this as an ongoing epidemic. To understand it and prevent future outbreaks, you have to go back to the first public record of the disease as policy in sport, the IOC’s 2003 Stockholm Consensus.

Dangerously well-informed Canadian Olympian and women’s sports advocate (I guess dangerous and well-informed are redundant) Alison Sydor, knowing I’m vulnerable to suggestion, sent me three links: Emma Hilton’s 2019 talk in which she describes the remarkable lack of science behind the IOC’s policies 2003 through 2021; the Stockholm Consensus link, above, that includes all the authors of that document; and a 2005 Lancet article written by Arne Ljungqvist and Myron Genel, two of the 2003 IOC Medical Committee members, detailing how they came to the (science-free) decision to allow “male transsexuals” into female sports. If you’ve got a lot of time, I encourage you to read/listen to them all. Anyway, the ensuing traumatic event is essentially all Alison’s fault.

All seven people on the 2003 IOC Medical Committee are really old, possibly dead. As such, it’s important to talk to the living. You know, primary source journalism. I emailed Ljungqvist, Joe Simpson and Myron Genel, asking them to talk about their 2003 decision to allow men in women’s sports, in light of the IOC’s recent return to sex-based categories. Myron Genel got back to me the same day, and we made a date to talk on the phone the following day.

As you would, I panicked and really prepared for this interview with an expert, an architect of the IOC’s very first male-in-female-sports policy. I read virtually everything—the Lancet article, listened to Emma Hilton, Myron’s many publications, as recent as 2023, on the inclusion of “transgender” athletes in women’s sports, and familiarized myself with his long resume—professor emeritus and senior research scientist and clinician in pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, expert advisor for the IAAF (now World Athletics) in the 1990s, one of seven people on the medical committee making policy for the IOC in 2003 and 2015, member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, author of 197 papers on pediatric endocrinology. That isn’t even the half of it. I frantically emailed Alison Sydor and asked her what she would ask this legend of sport policy. I made up an optimistic list of 23 questions based on my research. Alison sent me a list of questions. I was very concerned about looking stupid while talking to this person whose entire career was navigating the complex world of pediatric DSDs. Myron is, on paper, outrageously credentialed, absolutely in the thick of sports policy around sex and gender since the 1990s.

Prior to our phone call,Myron emailed me this 2025 paper arguing against SRY screening in the female category. Seems like he hadn’t changed his mind about men in women’s sports. I replied for the sake of discussion, with two short videos by Ross Tucker supporting SRY screening and explaining the CAIS exemption. (Which he ignored). The more I read, the greater the dissonance between Myron’s “research” and his reputation as a “scientific and medical expert” became. For example, the very first sentence of his 2017 article in Current Sports Medicine Reports entitled Transgender Athletes: How Can They Be Accommodated?:

From ancient times, competitive sport has been divided primarily by the traditional concepts of male/female identity…

Uhhmmm, male and female have, since ancient times, been identity categories? Not sex? Calling sex categories “traditional,” as if the ancient Greeks had arbitrarily made them up and they sort of stuck?

Myron was also, as I discovered within the first 20 seconds of our conversation, 1) nearly totally deaf, 2) suffering from probably age-related confusion, and 3) utterly unfamiliar with being asked questions or challenged when he espoused absolute falsehoods. To say our conversation did not go well is an understatement of Olympic proportion. I regret that I’m not tech savvy enough to have recorded the incident so you could fully appreciate the wild swoops and sudden veerings of our chat. It was a pretty busy 10 minutes for me, trying to take notes with one hand, shouting into my phone which I held right close to my mouth with the other, and hanging on with both hands to Myron’s driverless train of thought.

Here’s the conversation according to my notes. Just envision all of my lines delivered at glass-shattering volume.

Me: As I mentioned in my email, I’m interested in the discussion that led to the 2003 Stockholm Consensus. It sounds from your 2005 Lancet article like the IOC was not concerned about male advantage from DSDs. Why is that?

Myron: It was not clear at the time but that changed. Further research indicated postpubertal transgender athletes did not fully adjust from male to female as we thought. That was an important caveat. It was later demonstrated that there was residual muscle power remaining after the two year limit. The main caveat, the most important adjustment made by the IOC was the recommendation that participation by transgender athletes should be, well, there were two… 1. They should be adjusted on a sport-by-sport basis. It would be ridiculous to say there was any advantage in, say, archery or horse riding. That’s absurd. So it needed to be sport specific. In those sports that were…where muscle power is, uhhh…track and field and swimming were the most prominent. That’s different. The other issue is that transgender was often conflated with DSDs. Caster Semenya and others. She identified as female. Born and raised as females…DSD conflated with…. these women….conflated with… uhhhhh, so that was…

Me: I think the reason some male DSDs—5-ARD, what Caster Semenya had—and male transsexuals, as you called them in 2003, are conflated is that they both have male advantage. Isn’t that what you were concerned with? Male advantage in female sports?

Myron: Well… yeah…alright… from my perspective, our conclusion was…the fundamental recommendations were, they were born and raised as females so they should compete in the female category. And…

Me: Why? How is that fair for females? 5-ARD is a male DSD. It only affects males. Yes, Semenya was recorded as female at birth but that was a mistake by the attending physician at his birth. The IAAF knew Caster Semenya was male back in 2009. Why should women have to pay for a mistake made by the attending physician at birth?

Myron: Well… yeah…[laughs]… Again, I repeat, I think it is… decisions on this should be sports specific.

Me: Well, to your point, I think horse riding is not separated by sex, and archery—men have longer arms and much more upper body strength than women. Like 30% more. So they can draw the bow more easily. So archery is sex affected.

Myron: Look, does a 6’10” woman have an unfair advantage in volleyball?

Me: We don’t have volleyball teams for tall women and short women. We have women’s volleyball and men’s volleyball. There are a lot of tall women in volleyball but it’s not unfair to be a 6’10” woman because they’re all women. Or they’re supposed to be.

Myron: [mumbling] Did you call…look, what we said was…it should be sport-by-sport…

Me: Yes, but Caster Semenya did run in a sport affected by power, endurance, and strength. He did have male advantage. He is male. Why is it fair for him to race in the female category just because of a mistake made at his birth? That happens with a lot of 5-ARD babies born in less developed places.

Myron: [mumbled] Well, she was born and raised female…

Me: That’s not true. Semenya was born male, 100% male but with a genetic problem in that he didn’t develop a penis. Otherwise completely male. Went through male puberty [crippling dissonance as I’m explaining XY 5-ARD to a pediatric endocrinologist who treated 5-ARD patients for more than 50 years]

Myron: I’m not saying she… it’s not necessarily fair for her to compete in the 800 …

Me: But he did compete and won a gold medal and….

Myron: [yelling] Look, did you call to argue with me? I have better things to do.

[I realized the conversation had devolved and was circling the bowl, so I cut bait, and went directly to the ten-million-dollar question, which, ironically, Alison and I had independently starred on both of our question lists as the key, the bottom line, if I got nothing else. This one question answers everything about why men were and are in women’s sports]

Me: I want to talk about something else. Back in 2003, actually before 2003, a handful of male transsexuals—again, that’s the term you used then—had asked the IOC to compete in women’s sports. Of course, there were male and female categories. You knew these men were male, that humans don’t change sex, so these were a few men who had cut off their genitals and thought they were women, identified as women, but of course, they’re still male. Did you ever consider just telling these two transgender athletes no?

Myron: [long silence]

Me: I mean, you called them male transsexuals, so you knew they were male. Not eligible for the female category, right? Did you ever consider just telling them that? And that they could compete in the male category? Was that discussed?

Myron: Ok… alright… [laughs]… Uhhh…..We’re talking about transgender [he exaggerated the enunciation of transgender] athletes, not males or females….These are…people who have changed their gender….

Me: Wait, so are you saying transgender athletes are neither male nor female, that they’re another category of human?

Myron: [distressed, getting louder] Look, I don’t want to argue. Let’s forget about it… DSDs… post-pubertal, who changed their sex, those were people that I used to treat! DSDs born and raised as the gender they… more importantly, if the individual identifies as female at birth…is DSD at birth…

Me: But is it fair for women to have to pay in fairness for a mistake someone made at birth?

Myron: Nevermind what it wasn’t… sport specific…

Me: If you have women’s sports which are designed to include females and exclude males, why would you let in some males?

Myron: [mumbles] Let’s talk about Maria Patino.

Me: Was she the woman, the track athlete, who had XY chromosomes but was androgen insensitive?

Myron: [yelling] Alright, look, I don’t have time for this. I didn’t think you were calling…

Me: I just want to clarify—she was XY but had CAIS, right? The new IOC policy has a special exemption for CAIS. They will be flagged by the SRY screen but that’s the thing—it’s just a screen. They aren’t excluded on that. And all women who wish to compete in the female category will have this SRY screen, so no one will be targeted or singled out. And if further testing shows they have CAIS, they are cleared to compete in the female category. No male advantage. Maria Patino would be eligible to compete.

Myron: Oh. So we agree on that.

Me: In the 2005 Lancet article you wrote with Arne Ljungqvist, you mentioned that males who had gonadectomies and took hormones similar to a female profile would probably be few in number, and that they’d be mostly in Masters age level, but then you mentioned Renee Richards and a couple transsexual golfers who had been quite successful at the top level of women’s sports. But you then went on to say it would be fair and recommended the IOC adopt that policy. Why? Why not do more research?

Myron: [long silence] Alright…Ok [laughs]… I’m not… the article…I told you I didn’t… [shouting] that was 1999! I don’t want to talk about an article from 1999!

Me: But you made a policy that was really revolutionary. Allowing a way for men to compete in the female category. I want to know what you were thinking when you made that policy.

Myron: [shouting] I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT! You’ve called to argue. I thought you were calling to talk about…You’re just calling to argue…there’s nothing to discuss. Thank you. Goodbye. I have more important things to do. [hangs up]

I’m pretty cynical about the process of policymaking that broke the sex boundary, that first allowed men in women’s sports—the quality of science and medicine and ethics, and the responsibility to balance and include all stakeholders in the process— but this shocked me. It’s clear, Myron was not chosen to be one of those seven experts on the Science and Medicine Committee, or subsequent consultations, because of his expertise and specialized knowledge. There were many others with at least as much knowledge and experience. He was chosen for his commitment to advancing gender ideology and willingness to overlook science and ethics when it was inconvenient.

There was something profoundly disturbing about a medical professional of his stature mouthing absolute nonsensical, easily proven, falsehoods—that Caster Semenya was born female, that people who believe they are the opposite sex are neither male nor female (but should compete as females). Did he really believe these absurdities, or is this just what he tells journalists? Either way, shocking. And if possible, even more disturbing was that he didn’t seem to have any concern for the global destruction of women’s rights that resulted from his lies.

Myron never mentioned women in our conversation, and it’s clear that the 2003 Stockholm Committee never considered women, half the population, as “having rights.” I sort of knew that, in my gut—that’s the only way they could have come to the decision they did—but for Myron to flat out admit it, and angrily defend it, was shocking. I keep using that word; I can’t think of something stronger. Their focus was, always and singularly, on the desires of men. No matter how few (when the WIAA allowed boys to self-ID into girls’ sports in 2007, there were zero boys seeking to do so; the NCAA erased women’s sports in 2010 for perhaps two male athletes), no matter that these men were clinically mentally unwell, Myron et al never even considered simply telling these men no. Wouldn’t that be the normal response to two objectively unhinged men making insane requests of the largest, most elite sports organization in the world? Just a simple, No? I am haunted by the monumental waste of time and resources, the 23-year injustice to women, that could have been avoided had those seven people simply made the obvious decision to gently blow off two deluded men. That they didn’t, that instead they honored those unwell men’s demands, fully aware that this would harm all women, is really hard to comprehend. It’s a gut punch to hear an “expert,” a person with power and influence, say that women don’t really matter. They’re sub-human. And that men do. Always. It’s shocking to know without a shadow of doubt that the IOC’s decision in 2003 was not based on science, or medicine, or ethics, or even legality, but because men wanted it. I like to think that in 2026 we’ve progressed, that we’re enlightened, living in an age of reason, that women are of course the equal but distinct other class of human, that we’re better than Afghanistan. And then I talked to Myron for 10 minutes, and a pretty ugly truth emerged. Myron’s pissed off that I asked those questions, and I’m kind of sickened by the result. Lose-lose. That’s gender ideology/unadulterated patriarchy in a nutshell.

That’s some existential shit. Okay. Deep breath. What’s even more astounding, in a good way, than 23 years of wandering through smoking, post-apocalyptic, craven-masses-huddled-in-caves man-iverse? That in about nine months (coincidence?), Kirsty Coventry, Dr. Jane Thornton, a working group of people who pay attention to science, and female athletes (!) have miraculously delivered the IOC, at least, out of darkness into the sunshine of women as a recognizable and recognized group. It was certainly good news to hear IOC President Kirsty Coventry announce that that organization has defined the female category for females only at the elite level, and will use SRY screening to defend that category. I don’t want to take anything away from the hallelujah moment, for women, for the IOC, for sport, for science. And I’m not. This announcement should be celebrated as a triumph of truth and reality and rightness on every level. This is what I’ve been yipping about for more than a decade and now it’s here—yes, for the love of god, women’s sports for women! Amen!

But that announcement is incomplete. I am not the only one who feels neither satisfied, nor sane, in 2026, hurrahing for women’s sports for women. Really? The big news in 2026 is that men will no longer be allowed in women’s sports? Women’s sports for women—was that not the IOC’s stance for 80 years or so up until 2003? Are we supposed to not know that? Or be so overjoyed and grateful at being recognized as the other sex class of humans that we can pretend the last 23 years or so did not happen?

We have to talk about that nearly quarter century during which the IOC, the largest and most influential sports organization in the world, made a way for men to compete in women’s sports, a category specifically designed to exclude them. We need a reckoning, an admission of harm done. Without it, this crime/injustice/violation—none of those words are adequate for what is still happening in women’s sports—will happen again.

In her announcement, Kirsty Coventry said the decision to protect the female category is “foundationally based on science, and led by medical experts, with the best interests of athletes right at the heart.” Here’s the thing: There was no new science. All of the science on sex differences in sport existed 23 years ago. Men were not women in 2003. It was not fair for men to compete in women’s sports in 2003, and the IOC knew it. In fact, the only scientific evidence the IOC had in 2003 was that allowing “male transsexuals” into women’s sports would be “unfair, potentially dangerous in some sports, and would undermine women’s sports.” That’s a quote from Dr. Richard Budgett, who would become the medical director of the IOC, and personally preside over the very first inclusion of men in women’s competition. All of the science, medical expertise, and female athletes’ voices that Coventry said informed their decision to limit women’s sports to females were present in 2003 when they first obliterated the female category. They simply ignored this information and prioritized the desires of a handful of men who demanded to compete in the women’s category.

They sold this as “inclusion,” a human right for some men to be included in a category designed to exclude them. Think about that insanity. The utter disconnection from reality, the sudden veering into flat earth territory by the largest, most influential sports organization in the world. And for the next 23 years, they continued to make it easier for men to compete in women’s sports, and continued to lie to women and the public about the unfairness, and even the fact that “trans women” were really men, as the science, medical experts, female athletes’ voices, and reality itself continued to reveal the wrongness of their insane policy.

It’s important to understand the enormity of that betrayal of women and their own charter as a sports organization. First, this was not your local football club that made a rogue bad policy. It was the freaking IOC. They have a duty to be extra cautious, extra conservative, meticulous about due diligence with even the slightest policy change. The more radical the change, the more transparent the process and rigorous the evidence should be. They did none of that. The most prestigious sports organization in the world went absolutely bonkers, adopting an anti-reality.made-up ideology that claims men are women because they say so.

Second, allowing men in women’s sports is as radical as it gets. It was not a nuanced shift in policy; it was a reckless leap into the void, knowing only that it would harm women. The IOC wiped out one of two sex categories, the most fundamental, uncontroversial fairness measure in sports, something that had never even been posited, much less executed, with regard to any sports category. In the history of sport. “Inclusion” for weight categories? For age, or ability? Absurd, unthinkable. Redefining the eligibility standards for a category such that it includes those it was designed to exclude, introducing unfairness and safety risks—violation, injustice, crime—words fall short of describing the extremity of that action.

The IOC also knew that their policy would trickle down to every sport in every country at every level. They all did it because the IOC did it. The IOC led what is unquestionably the most devastating assault on women’s and girls sports ever launched, and the majority of female athletes are still suffering from their 2003 decision. And women are supposed to forget that?

Sadly, it was not a realization that they were visiting unspeakable harm on women and women’s sports that prompted the IOC’s eventual return to protecting the female category, but rather the untenable damage to their reputation the policy had wrought. From the all-male DSD podium in the 2016 women’s 800-meter race to 43-year-old Gavin (Laurel) Hubbard at the 2021 Olympics to male boxer Imane Khelif being awarded a gold medal for punching women, and then-President Thomas Bach insisting on worldwide TV that Khelif was a woman, the IOC had publicly sacrificed their reputation on the altar of gender ideology.

Regarding my (idealistic? naive?) call for a reckoning and admission of harm done, Olympian and women’s sports advocate Sharron Davies brought me back to planet Earth: “It would open them up to legal challenge for compensation.” Plain truth from a businesswoman and athlete who has spent decades seeking justice for female athletes cheated by the East German doping program of the 1970s and 1980s. Admitting culpability in the global undermining of women’s sports would be financially ruinous to the IOC (see also: Catholic Church). Whether or not they should suffer that consequence is irrelevant: A reckoning won’t happen.

Nonetheless, the IOC seems to realize, if not the harm done to women, then at least the harm done to their reputation, and have gone about this policy change in a markedly different way than they have over the last 23 years. To save their reputation, and possibly, as a fringe benefit, women’s sports.

For one thing, they were transparent about who they consulted in developing this policy—endocrinologists, sport scientists, ethics people, female athletes, legal, human rights (that’s code for trans advocates). This is a change. Transparency has not, to this point, been in the IOC skill set. No one knew who they consulted or how they “developed” the 2003 policy to allow men into women’s sports, but based on the results, it’s certain endocrinologists, sport scientists, and female athletes were not consulted, and trans advocates were. In 2003, transpeak was used in all communications—no biological terms were used, a marked lack of science in any form. Instead, “inclusion,” “human rights,” “sports for all,” “trans women,” “no presumption of advantage,” was the new and confusing language used.

In sharp contrast, at about 14:10 in the 2026 press conference, Jane Thornton, the IOC science and medical director, said the Working Group agreed on a number of definitions: sex as male and female, and unchanging, and gender and gender identity as a changeable sense of self, and that sex differences from birth made it necessary to restrict the female category to females. That to do otherwise is unfair to women. That we all know the definitions they agreed on, and the process by which they came to the decision to recognize the reality of sex is money in the bank. It would be difficult to walk back those publicly made and scientifically based statements. Transparent, understandable, scientific, reflecting a reality we all recognize—what Thornton was communicating without saying it is that this is a sharp 180 from the previous 23 years. What she actually voiced is that, by following science, the IOC realizes sex matters, women’s sports must be female only, and that SRY screening is the best method for ensuring that. But what she implied is that this is a change—the IOC had NOT, for the past 23 years, been following science, and certainly had not listened to female athletes.

That’s as close as we’re going to get to a reckoning. What the IOC did do is present the truth of women’s sex-based rights, publicly, locked and loaded, and user friendly. Let the trickle down begin! And can we please start with the BBC?

About a year ago, what would have been US Masters swimmer Angie Griffin’s first individual National Championship was given to a male, Hugo “Hannah/Ana” Caldas, who has been misrepresenting himself as a woman and stealing women’s opportunities and awards in swimming, rowing, crossfit, and the now-defunct Grid League weightlifting competition over a 16-year period. Griffin, pictured above, didn’t know any of that last April.

During the 2025 National Championship meet several news sources identified Caldas as male. On May 1, Griffin and other Masters swimmers filed a complaint against US Masters Swimming claiming their policy of allowing males to race against females was unfair.

Seven months later, after making public documented evidence of unfairness and calls for reform, Griffin received an email saying a grievance had been filed against her claiming her posts on the USMS Community Forum constituted bullying, harassment, and unsporting conduct. To be clear, USMS is defending a man they enabled to lie and cheat women out of awards for 16 years, has been called out by their own parent organization for lying about that man’s sex, have violated their own policies they know to be unfair to allow a man to compete in women’s events, and have facilitated and promoted public attacks on Griffin’s character. Griffin now faces a USMS tribunal over her conduct—not for lying or cheating—for speaking out for fairness for women, with a potential lifetime ban from Masters swimming. USMS has never threatened such severe punishment before, for any offense.

The tribunal was scheduled to take place via Zoom on April 7, 2026, but on March 28, was postponed. No new date has been set.

So determined is US Masters Swimming to punish Angie Griffin, to protect a lying, cheating man, and to persist with their absurdly misogynistic policies they are willing to risk their status as a US regulatory body to continue with this sham tribunal. USMS has come under scrutiny by the Aquatics Integrity Unit for what is widely acknowledged by the swimming world to be harassment and bullying of Griffin as retribution, as an example to others of what happens when women stand up for their rights.

That’s the stripped down version. The details are much crazier. This shameful campaign of abuse is a slow motion train wreck but it’s necessary to wade into the mess to understand the lengths a national sports organization, whose job it is to make their sport fair, will go to allow men to compete in women’s swimming. And to punish women who object.

I talked with Angie on the phone.

Angie Griffin swam in USA Swimming programs as a kid and in high school, but gave it up as an adult. About ten years ago she was overweight and decided to do something about it, so she got back in the water. Someone at the city pool suggested she try Masters Swimming.

“It opened a whole new world to me,” she said. “Friends and competition and feeling young again.”

Unlike other sports, US Masters Swimming is a separate entity from USA Swimming. World Aquatics is the international organization. USA Swimming has an 18+ program for more serious swimmers, while Masters Swimming is considered the more recreational track. USMS emphasizes participation—just for fun :) — over competition to justify inclusion of males in women’s events, but of course, they treat the ability of men to choose the category in which they participate as a matter of life and death. And they are apparently willing to die on that hill.

“You don’t have to qualify for Nationals, but Masters swimmers take competition very seriously,” Angie said. “Ten years ago, 11 now, when I first went to Nationals there were tons of Olympians there. It was also in San Antonio. Sort of why winning that 50 Breast would have been awesome ten years later at the same pool. It was such a fun experience to be racing against these celebrities. That’s what’s so great about Masters Swimming—everyone’s included, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of women.”

“I did see him [Caldas] at the meet. I didn’t voice my suspicions but nearly everyone, men and women, at the meet wondered aloud if he was using steroids, or what. I just thought he was really big for a girl—not that tall but broad, big shoulders, big biceps, really intimidating. I swam right next to him in two races on Friday—I got second and third. Sunday was redemption—I anchored our winning relay. It was the best feeling ever, winning that National title.

“Monday I got off the plane and my phone was blown up with texts, stories on the internet about Caldas being trans, that he won five National titles just that weekend, and he’d been taking national and world titles and Crossfit prizes for years. My mind was blown.

“People say, oh it’s just Masters, but it would have been my first individual National Championship. I’d get my patch. It meant something to me. I trained for it. It might not seem like a big deal, but I spent time and money getting to Texas. I just love swimming and I love racing. I wake up early— 4am—swim or lift weights, go to work climbing utility poles, go home, make dinner and crash at like 8pm. It’s not just Masters.”

The Protest Letter

Angie and others who had raced against Caldas researched policies and filed a protest with the US Masters Swimming Board, pointing out that they had lost places and titles to a biological male, and comparing the larger swim organization’s policies with USMS—World Aquatics banned males who have gone through male puberty, and USA Swimming (in April 2025) required males to have testosterone levels of 5nmol/liter or less for 36 months. In sharp contrast, Angie revealed in her protest letter what she found out when digging into USMS’s transgender policy.

“What I discovered is that USMS changed its transgender guidelines in December 2024 based on the Rules Committee recommendations that are documented in that Committee’s July 9 and August 11, 2024 minutes. The Committee was to review USA Swimming and WA rules and err on the side of less “strict” rules. (Why?) The minutes reflect that the main concern of the Committee was related to who could file a protest, and absent was any significant discussion of the 2022 WA (then FINA) guidelines that are well documented regarding science, safety and fairness.”

Another way to say “less strict” is “unfair.” USMS policy that was in place during 2025 Nationals says that to be eligible for women’s events, men must undergo “hormonal therapy appropriate for the female gender” for a year to “minimize gender-related advantages.” They specified a maximum testosterone level of 5nmol/liter, which is more than double the average female level. BEYOND THAT, the USMS policy says men who don’t alter their hormones at all can still participate in women’s events but their times will be removed and they cannot receive titles, awards or recognition. Note: USMS understands “trans women” are male, that even after hormone suppression they retain advantages, and that including them will introduce unfairness to women. Thus, their focus, not on making fair policy, but on shutting down protests.

Angie, that troublesome and well-informed protester, continued: “The rules are unclear about the exact information and when exactly in the one year period the test results must be done. And the level of testosterone that would meet the testing requirement is double that of a typical woman. How is this fair by any standard?”

Her protest went on to present evidence that Caldas is a biological male who had gone through male puberty and, awkwardly for USMS, had competed in USMS events in the male category in 2002-2004, and “possesses inherent physiological advantages that cannot be mitigated by hormone therapy alone.”

She requested five things from USMS: 1) Detailed documentation that Caldas met the required guidelines, 2) Transparency regarding testosterone compliance, 3) Re-evaluate all the standings from the National meet for women who swam against Caldas, 4) Change USMS policy to focus on fairness, not just inclusion, and 5) Notify USMS members directly of changes to the transgender policy.

She concluded: “I reiterate that this is not about exclusion, I am a proponent of inclusion. It is about ensuring a level playing field for all competitors. …While USMS was so focused on inclusion with its policy, fairness to women in the sport was clearly overlooked.”

It was a helluva protest—calm, reasoned, evidenced, documented, factual. And a real problem for USMS.

USMS Violated Their Own Unfair Policy

Which is why it took them four months to reply. Angie and company also filed a protest about ANOTHER male swimmer at the 2025 National meet who won nothing. Two weeks later, USMS responded that that man was indeed eligible to compete in the women’s category. Since this man received no awards, according to USMS policy, he could participate in women’s events without submitting documentation of his testosterone levels. Just a not very talented man competing in women’s events to affirm his identity. Completely valid, according to USMS policy.

But they were running into trouble answering Angie’s complaint against Caldas. Maybe because, though they knew Caldas is male, USMS had never collected documentation of his testosterone levels that their own unfair policy required, and he had hoovered up LOTS of recognition. They’d been violating their own policy, and allowing a man with unknown levels of testosterone to compete in women’s events for more than a decade as they awarded him 28 women’s Masters national titles. Oops. This was going to require some pretty spectacular prevarication. That’s what took four months.

On August 22, USMS finally replied to Angie’s protest. They said that Caldas had presented “documentation reflecting her sex assigned at birth and her gender identity, including a birth certificate, passport, and U.S. citizenship documents.” All of these documents were falsified, as became evident a few months later. USMS had no answer for why this “woman” had entered male events using a male name between 2002 and 2004: “The documents the swimmer submitted all demonstrate that she was assigned the female sex at birth and that she identifies as female, although she swam in the male category at USMS events 2002-2004.” There. See? A born female decided at some period in her adulthood to use a male name and swim on a male team in the male category for a few years, and then reverted to a woman’s name and the female category where “she” won 28 USMS National titles. That’s USMS’s story, and they’re sticking by it.

So, as of August 2025, USMS lied to Angie, pretending that Caldas is, not transgender, but born female, as evidenced by changeable pieces of paper, thus absolving them of ever having to collect or document his testosterone reduction. Which they likely did not ever do. Also, as a “born female,” by USMS rules, Caldas would be able to not only participate but be recognized as a Masters national title holder, something he’d accomplished 28 times over 16 years. Just in Masters swimming. To say nothing of awards in rowing, Crossfit, and Grid League weightlifting. All of this, because none of these organizations actually defend the female category. With a cheek swab. We know how to verify sex just like we know how to verify age or weight. Organizations, like USMS, prioritized inclusion of males in the female category over fairness for women, and were willing to debase themselves and the sport, and gaslight women, with absurd lies in order to do so.

“When I saw USMS stand firm that he [Caldas] was female, I was so angry, furious is the strongest word I can find,” Angie said. “I was done with Masters swimming. I was done funding them. I was just going to walk away.”

World Aquatics’ Fairness Revealed USMS’ Unfairness and Lies

Then, in October 2025, World Aquatics banned Caldas for five years for violations of multiple rules including providing false sex certification, failing to meet women’s category eligibility criteria, and failing to take a sex verification (cheek swab) screen. Recall that World Athletics offers a female sex category for females only; they do not accept bogus falsified documents as sex verification. WA had been alerted to Caldas’ sex by the same news reports that emerged after the 2025 USMS National meet, noting that Caldas had won two women’s World titles at the 2024 World Masters Championship, their jurisdiction. Retroactively asking for documentation of his female sex, Caldas must have submitted the same falsified birth certificate and passport he’d passed off to USMS. WA wasn’t buying it, Caldas refused to take a sex verification test, and WA banned him for five years from World Aquatics events.

This put USMS in a very awkward position. USMS risked losing association with WA, and national regulatory status, if they did not also ban Caldas from their own events, but of course upholding the ban would confirm that Caldas was male and reveal that USMS was lying to members about Caldas’ sex, and had allowed this male to participate and take women’s awards without ever documenting any testosterone reduction as their policy required. Got it? Oh what tangled webs we weave when we seek to deceive.

As it turns out, Angie was in no way the first or the only person to correctly call Caldas a man and highlight USMS’s years-long culpability in violating women’s right to fair sports. Jonathan Kay published a scathing, in-depth expose for Quillette on October 31, 2025. Kay traced Caldas’ move from participation on a gay men’s swim team to a multi-sport swath of grifting, misrepresenting himself as a woman and cheating women out of scores of national and world titles, all aided by organizations that simply accepted his lie. In fact, “Hannah” Caldas was on the USMS Sports & Medicine Committee in 2012. Employed and originally swimming under the name Hugo Caldas, Kay reported he first changed his name to Hannah, and later to Ana, which disturbingly, is the name of his sister.

The Grievance

On November 1, Angie posted a link to the Quillette article on the USMS Community Forum under a thread titled Trans girls/biological males competing against females:

This Community Forum thread was started around the date of the 2025 USMS National Championship by another USMS member who saw obvious unfairness in USMS’s policy. Many of the commenters agreed with this position, some in much less measured manner than Angie did, but her comments were singled out.

On November 21, Angie received an email from USMS apprising her that a USMS member had filed a grievance against her, claiming her posts on the Community Forum violated USMS’s Code of Ethics, including failure to treat fellow members with respect and dignity, and displaying unsporting conduct. The grievance referenced only two of Angie’s posts as evidence of ethics violations—the one that included the link to the Quillette article, above, and this one:

With only these two posts as evidence, USMS declared that the grievance “had merit” and should proceed to a tribunal. Following are some of Angie’s other comments posted between early May and early November. This is the evidence of bullying, harassment, and unsporting conduct that USMS found serious enough to drag her before a tribunal, and threaten her with a lifetime ban from Masters Swimming. Though out of context, they are remarkably innocuous. Perhaps recognizing that anyone could see that these public posts did not constitute bullying, harassment, and unsporting conduct, the Community Forum moderator went about deleting them. Luckily, Angie took screenshots.

Speaking Out For Fairness Is Deemed Unethical and Unsporting

“I felt so small. Like David and Goliath.” Angie called Kim Jones, the co-founder of ICONS for help.

“Talking about changing policy and asking for fairness is not hateful. I don’t want to hurt anyone by this; I want women to not be hurt. I never targeted the individual. I was sharing publicly available information that could help direct policy in a fair direction.

“If the National Board of Review rules against me, I could be banned from the sport for life. This has never happened before, that’s how severe they think my violation is.

“If the tribunal comes down in my favor nothing really changes. Maybe they retract his [Caldas’] times. The stress it’s caused for the last six months will go away. This has nothing to do with USMS policy or what happened at Nationals—it’s about me being a bully and disrespectful to another swimmer. Even if I ‘win,’ they’ll still think I’m a horrible person.

“I asked Bill Bock (ICONS legal counsel), ‘Should I just quit?’ He said: ‘You have to go through with the tribunal because the accusation is a black mark against you, against your character.’ And that’s the thing—I don’t have bad sportsmanship. I cheer for all the girls in my age group. They’re saying disagreeing is violence and bullying. It’s not.”

The National Board of Review ignored several of Angie’s objections during the process, reiterating that her conduct was on trial, not USMS policy or fairness for women.

At the now-postponed hearing, Angie and the grievant will have 30 minutes each to state their cases. The bitter irony of this insane kangaroo court is the number of egregious ethics and human rights violations that are NOT being reviewed: A man has lied, cheated, and presented falsified documents to steal more than 30 women’s national and world titles in four different sports for 16 years; a national sports organization knowingly violated women’s right to fair sport, failed to follow the procedures of their own unfair policy, and lied to members about a man’s sex; disagreement has been criminalized by calling it misconduct; and that national sports organization has facilitated a campaign of abuse against the woman who pointed out these violations and failures.

Instead, the National Board of Review will judge the behavior of the woman who lost a National Championship to a man, and said something about it.

I’m deep into another story but made the mistake of reading this assault on sanity and crime against journalism by, of all places, AP News. This article is shamefully factually incorrect from top to bottom. Men are excluded from women’s sports because they are male, not due to any belief about themselves they may have, nor because of Trump. Trump did not invent two sexes last year, for the love of god. Men who believe they are women are male, thus not eligible for the female category. Athletes with transgender identities DID participate in the 2024 Olympics—US track star Nikki Hiltz identifies as masculine nonbinary and boxer Hergie Bacyadan identifies as a man. There was no controversy because both are female and both competed in the female category. Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is male. He won a gold medal in women’s boxing because the IOC accepted a piece of paper that said he was female. He has since admitted being male with the same DSD that Caster Semenya has. He and Semenya are 100% male but suffer from a genetic anomaly such that their external genitalia did not develop, so at birth they were wrongly assigned female. They are completely male without a penis. This DSD only affects males. For AP to report that Semenya is female with naturally high testosterone is completely false in every way. Semenya is and always has been 100% male who did not develop a penis. His testosterone is not high, it is normal for a male. This is beyond sloppy “journalism,” it is propaganda. One has to wonder why AP would print this easily refuted and frankly embarrassing assault on sanity.

Like a majority of Democratic voters, I feel dismayed and betrayed by the fact that Democratic lawmakers have sharply broken with voters, with factual reality, and with common sense.

Tom Ruen shared your response to his questions about men in women’s sports with me. By the by, an AI detector program estimated your response as 98.5% AI written. I am a journalist, my focus being women’s sports. My writing is informed by talking with athletes including those with trans identities, coaches, sport scientists, and sports administrators, and reading everything I can get my hands on. Including your letter. Literacy and critical thinking are my most used tools. Not AI.

I’m responding to your letter with verifiable facts. They are not views or opinions, in the same way that sex is an unchanging verifiable fact and gender identity is an unverifiable belief with no basis in reality.

You dismissed Ruen’s questions because they characterized transgender athletes as males. As you know, humans don’t change sex, nor are they born in the wrong body. All humans have rights based on reality; women’s rights are entirely dependent on the reality of their sex. Obviously, if any man can simply declare himself a woman, then the word woman becomes meaningless and women’s rights disappear. People may believe that they are the opposite sex, or both sexes or neither. Like any unverifiable belief (eg, I am a 2:10 marathoner), these are not worthy of special rights, especially when those unverifiable claims infringe on the rights of an objectively real group—women. Male and female are biological terms referring to people whose bodies developed along a pathway to produce eggs or sperm. There is no third or fourth gamete. It’s important to use accurate language. Males from conception are different from females, chromosomally, hormonally, skeletally, physiologically. These differences—more lean muscle mass, longer denser bones, larger heart and lungs, greater blood volume, greater ability to carry oxygen to name a few—cannot be changed and become greater with puberty. You can’t uncook an egg. Men are not women, regardless of belief, declaration, hormonal tinkering or surgery. This fact, one of the few foundational truths of humanity, is the basis of women’s rights, one of which is single-sex sports. And you have no idea how tiresome and frustrating and what a monumental waste of time and effort it has been to calmly and clearly state blindingly obvious facts to those (Democrats) who pretend not to understand. As they spout flat earth idiocy as an excuse to destroy MY AND YOUR rights. (I’m going to take a moment here to scream into a pillow)

The Minnesota legislature and the Minnesota State High School League back in 2015 did not consult science or coaches or women before they made the radical, unprecedented decision to disregard sex categories and allow any male to self-identify into female sports. The only evidence they had at that time was that it would be unfair, dangerous and deleterious to girls’ sports, but they disregarded these facts and instead based this decision (for reference, no one has EVER even considered “inclusion” in any other sports category—weight, age, ability—much less enacting it) on the fact that a few other cowardly, misguided orgs had violated women’s rights before. And gotten away with it because they called it something nice—inclusion.

Because they all, like you, ASSUMED that someone else had done the research and looked at the science and determined it was fair. They had not. None of them. Two autogynephilic men in 2003 who claimed to be women demanded that the IOC let them compete in women’s sports. Since they’d cut off their penises, and were really poor athletes and obviously not mentally well, the IOC thought there would be no harm in letting them compete as women. Of course, they knew they were violating women’s rights but what the hell, it was just women. I wrote about this initial crime here.

The MSHSL, the NCAA, Washington state athletic association, they knew it was wrong to allow men in women’s sports, but because others had done it, they could pretend it was right. It’s called a circle jerk, Amada. Let me know if you need an explanation. There was NEVER any evidence that allowing males in female sports was anything but wrong on every level. This was quietly disregarded because: Men and money. Trans ideology has been imposed top down by fear, coercion, circle jerks, and billionaire funding. As you are demonstrating, it really works.

Minnesota knew it was wrong, and left themselves an out, legally, by writing an exemption for Athletic Teams to have single-sex sports and locker rooms in the Human Rights Act. Please read it. You may be the only Democrat who has. Why doesn’t anyone talk about this? Why do they insist that it’s illegal to have female-only sports in Minnesota when this exemption exists? Why did lawmakers create this exemption but now pretend it does not exist? Does making female-only sports and spaces illegal sound right to you? Does that sound progressive? How do you propose ensuring opportunities, fairness, safety, dignity, and privacy for girls if any boy can self-identify into girls’ sports? (For starters, a boy using the girls’ locker room is, by definition, sexual harassment, in Minnesota, state-facilitated sexual harassment of ALL girls. I wrote about that too)

Your next paragraph speaks to the small number of kids with trans identities participating in sports. Luckily I did not outsource this question to Democratic talking points but rather called up the Williams Institute that is the leading source of data on kids with trans identities and their rates of sports participation. You can read my entire investigation here, but using Williams Institute’s estimate that 3.3% of high school age kids identify as trans and Minnesota’s approximately 302,602 high school students = 9986 trans-identified high school kids in MN. Williams Institute estimates the percent of trans-identified kids who participate in sports at somewhere between 1% and 20%. Using a median estimate of 10%, that’s 998 high school athletes with trans identities. Almost 1000. That’s not insignificant. As a track and cross country coach at a small private school in the Twin Cities, I personally know of more than 10 trans-identified kids on my small teams in my small school. That 1000 trans athlete estimate seems very low. And NCAA president Charlie Baker was doing something that identified as math when he estimated 10 athletes with trans identities in the entire NCAA. Using Williams Institute’s data, I came up with 7,202 trans-identified athletes in the NCAA. Not ten.

But data means diddly squat to the girl who didn’t make it to state because a boy took her place. And is just one boy watching the girls get undressed okay? Even if a boy is a rubbish athlete, last on the team, he’s still a boy. He doesn’t belong on the girls’ team. Girls’ sports is not an affirmation exercise for boys with girl identities.

This argument—it’s so few—is so stupid, and so frequently used. How many boys in the girls’ category is acceptable? Ten? 100? Just to help you think about this, how many heavyweight wrestlers do officials allow in the 120-pound class? There is no category that allows people who do not qualify in that category. The number is zero. You don’t have to be a coach to figure that out. It’s wrong, everyone knows it, but those who said so lost their jobs. Girls were threatened. You know this. If you actually questioned this violation of girls’ human rights, where would you be in the Democratic party?

Some questions for you: Why do we have boys’ and girls’ sports? Why should girls’ give up their human rights as females and their Title IX rights to single-sex sports and spaces to boys? Why are you supporting this law that erases girls’ rights as humans?

Athletes, coaches, sport scientists, school administrators who actually DO lookout for girls’ rights and fairness were all actively ignored when organizations like the MSHSL “opened up” girls’ sports to boys in 2015. They did this very quickly and quietly because they knew it was wrong and there would be enormous backlash if the public knew. It’s taken 11 years for Minnesotans to learn what “inclusion” means—boys in girls’ sports and spaces. Major international sports organizations outside the US (Minnesota is in the dark ages)—the IOC, World Athletics, World Aquatics, International Cycling, World Rugby, World Triathlon, and many others—have realized their horrific error and have moved to mandate the female category for females only. This had nothing to do with Trump, for the love of god. It’s science. It’s fact. It’s recognizing women as a fully human distinct sex class worthy of their own rights. People who know something about sports have decided, women’s sports must be for women only. Why are you ignoring them?

Laws and policy MUST be based on fact. You are staunchly defending bad laws that enshrine an unverifiable belief system that has no basis in reality with “rights” that erase the rights of half the population. (Note: government backed beliefs = theocracy). You are vigorously supporting erasure of your own rights, and mine. Minnesota says they are women because they said so. They are men in exactly the same way high school boys who claim to be girls are male.

Thoughtful—or any—reply, came there none. Simula is in a position of some influence as Mayor of Columbia Heights, and hopes to be a representative in the Minnesota House. She hopes to be a leader of all people, yet supports laws that deny her own reality. It is unlikely that she will ever face the consequences of recognizing an unverifiable belief by men and boys in law on all girls and women in Minnesota. She never mentioned girls and women at all in her letter. Only people with a personal unverifiable belief that they are the opposite sex, or both sexes or neither, and as such, deserve more rights. Rights to women’s sports and spaces. She is unaware that major international sports organizations HAVE looked into it and moved to mandate women’s sports for females only. She doesn’t care that 67% of Democratic voters support female-only sports for women and girls. This is the view from Minnesota.

California Interscholastic Federation has set the bar very very high for self-humiliation, but I have confidence they can reach even greater heights—or is it depths? I thought CIF couldn’t have embarrassed themselves any more than they did last May when it became apparent that a boy, AB Hernandez, had a very good chance of winning three GIRLS state championships. And those spineless geniuses at CIF thought, ooo, bad optics. Galvanizing every ounce of their considerable cowardice and remarkable institutional idiocy, CIF established a pilot entry process just for the state championship track meet that applied only to the three events in which Hernandez was entered—the long jump, triple jump, and high jump—such that, if the boy made it into the finals, 12 girls, actual females, could advance to the finals and compete for the state championship. So, in those three events, 13 athletes would advance to the finals instead of the rule standard 12—12 girls and a boy. AND if the special boy got a podium spot, the girl whose spot that should have been would “get” to share her podium spot with Hernandez. This feat of institutional stupidity rose well above run-of-the-mill stupidity by simultaneously adding in criminality, destroying all girls’ Title IX right to single-sex sports, making a joke of the very foundation of competition, AND installing a blinking neon arrow over the male competitor that read: THIS BOY IS NOT A GIRL BUT WE’RE TOO COWARDLY TO TELL HIM TO COMPETE IN THE BOYS’ CATEGORY AND THE GIRLS WILL BE GOOD SPORTS ABOUT GIVING UP ALL THEIR RIGHTS.

As it turns out, last May was not a one off as CIF hoped. They’re still cowardly and stupid, and boys are still not girls, and everyone knows it—shit—so already, so early in this year’s track season, they’ve had to perform the same We Are Fucking Idiots dance. On March 7, at the Roosevelt Invitational in Eagleville, CA, the male athlete, AB Hernandez, swept the high jump, triple jump, and long jump. Even though he had the best jump by a long way, the meet directors “let” the top jumping female athlete stand on the first place podium with the boy. Because: see? Girls are not being displaced by this boy, right? And let’s be clear, everyone KNOWS AB Hernandez is male—CIF acknowledges it, the girls know it, the parents know it, AB Hernandez knows it, everyone knows it. So much for affirming that boy’s feminine identity. The truth is a bitch. But AB Hernandez is not. He’s just a boy.

No matter how you slice it, it’s hard to even count the losers in this situation. First and foremost, girls lose. It’s CIF’s job to administer the rules of sport, one of which is to define and defend categories, sex being foremost among them. They failed girls monumentally by actively welcoming boys with special identities into the sport. Thousands of girls over a single track season are displaced by a single boy. It’s not just places and opportunities that girls lose, it’s the message that a boy is entitled, backed by state law, no less, to choose to compete in girls’ sports, but girls cannot choose to have only female competition. Boys are prioritized in girls’ sports. Boys have all the power in girls’ sports. For no reason other than that they claim a feminine identity. Girls lose big time.

And while we’re on the notion of unverifiable identities, if CIF made a special rule just for one boy in girls’ sports, it’s obvious they should honor girls who identify as boys and compete in boys’ sports. The first place “trans boy” should have shared the podium with the first place boy at the state championship, even if this athlete actually placed last. She was the first “trans boy” and should have been recognized just like the first place “trans girl.” Why did the CIF not make a rule about this? Nevermind that this cohort barely exists (it’s not clear if there were ANY females competing in the male category at the state championship or the Roosevelt Invitational). No one seems to give a fuck about females, regardless of their identity claims. So let’s expand the loser list—ALL females lose. Including those with masculine or nonbinary identities.

AB Hernandez loses. The CIF is running into problems with the whole gender identity thing. To a member, they know like they know their names that Hernandez is male. Hell, Hernandez knows he’s male but is riding this train as far as it will take him. Why not? Can you even imagine being a 17-year-old narcissistic, not entirely mentally healthy boy and having this much personal power over the CIF? But the truth is, his “power” identifies as power. In the same way he’s living a lie, the CIF and every other person watching in the stands knows he’s male. CIF confirms he’s “the male winner of the female triple jump.” Dude, that’s a lose. Not enough makeup in the world to hide that.

You have to almost—almost—be in awe of an organization that is willing to debase itself publicly to this degree. CIF has. And appears to have no end to their willingness to expose their idiocy. Not only making special rules to allow special boys to compete in girls sports, violating Title IX, destroying the integrity of girls’ sports, violating every foundational truth of our society—that and more. There is simply no limit to the degree to which CIF will debase their own organization. That they will commit these crimes against girls, publicly, and lie blatantly—they’ve given away every shred of authority or credibility they ever had. Wow, talk about losers.

Sports lose. Cheats are not treated kindly in sports because cheating is counter to the very soul of sports. Sports strive to be as fair as possible, to control for known advantages—age, weight, ability, experience, and yes, sex—so that talent can be celebrated. Do not start with me about Michael Phelps. Don’t embarrass yourself. Phelps competes against males, males of much the same experience and ability. And wins by milliseconds. He is a champion of his category. People who know something of sports know that watching Michael Phelps swim against women is a display of male advantage. We know that. Not interesting or worth celebrating. A debasement of sports. Pretending that male advantage doesn’t exist is just stupid. People reject that. It’s so obviously empirically wrong, it’s an insult to the idea of competition.

CIF is orchestrating and presiding over a humiliating circus of their own making. It’s grotesque, and everyone recognizes it. This is not progress. It’s not sports. It’s a drag show with unwilling audience and participants.

Are you at all discomfited by the sudden domino-like policy changes by US national governing bodies that mandate women’s sports for women only, even though this is what you’ve been wanting to happen for more than a decade?

Are you wondering why all these organizations came to the startlingly obvious conclusion that the female category should be for females now—all within the last year—since the facts that underpin women’s sports have not changed, well, ever?

Does the absolute uniformity of motivation for keeping men out of women’s sports—to comply with Trump’s executive orders—fill you with unease?

Do you realise that, in 2003 when the IOC first allowed men to compete in women’s sports, and in 2010 when the NCAA followed suit, they were not forced to do this by executive order? Quite the opposite—they considered the inclusion of males in women’s sports a moral imperative.

Are you bothered by the fact that organizations whose sole job is ensuring that women’s sports is fair and safe and composed of women had to be forced to do that job under threat of financial and legal consequences?

Is it at all disturbing that not one of these organizations has mentioned preserving the integrity of women’s sports as even an ancillary reason for mandating sex-based sports?

Is there the tiniest niggle that not one sports organization in charge of governing women’s sports mentioned that ensuring women’s sports is female-only is simply the right thing to do?

Are you plagued by doubts about sports organizations who cannot be bothered to hide their bald contempt for the safety, fairness, and integrity of women’s sports by openly admitting they are only doing this under extreme duress?

Do you feel these organizations have women’s best interests at heart?

My goodness, aren’t the big sports organizations in the US suffering ! USOPC, NCAA, and on down the line to national governing bodies like USA Track and Field, USA Swimming, USA Cycling, and even niche sports that have for decades enjoyed a hegemony of misogyny like USA Fencing and USA Hockey—they’ve all had to bite the bullet and make women’s sports for women. Dammit. You can hear their teeth grinding, the black humor—eh, this too shall pass, like a kidney stone.

Trump, who we all know has only one view of pussy, I mean, women, and has since gone on to flood the system with bullshit and war as per his playbook, casually and immediately took the pliers to sports orgs’ balls and squeezed off the money. Not because he cared or knew one freaking thing about women’s sports, but to mess with the libs. It was an obvious and easy place to score political points with the public who overwhelmingly approves of female-only female sports.

From ESPN: “The USOPC change is noted obliquely as a detail under ‘USOPC Athlete Safety Policy’ and references Trump’s executive order, ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,’ signed in February. That order, among other things, threatens to ‘rescind all funds’ from organizations that allow transgender athlete participation in women’s sports.”

Wait, rescind all funds?! What the holy!? This is getting serious.

“The USOPC informed national governing bodies in July 2025 that they must comply with an executive order from President Trump intended to ‘keep men out of women’s sports,’ which applies to high school, college, and elite-level, Olympic-related sports.”

Sports organizations have recognized the executive orders as political performance. It’s easy to play that game—you don’t even have to pretend to care about women. Yes, it’s painful in the short term, but it has to be done. For appearances. For the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Because: money. Because they will lose their cushy job if they don’t play the game.

Think back to 2003 and 2010 and all dates in between then and now—the USOPC and the NCAA called inclusion of men in women’s sports a moral imperative. A “human right.” This, in spite of the fact that they aggressively excluded anyone who objected to this obvious destruction of women’s rights, and ignored every shred of evidence that, without exception, showed that allowing men in women’s sports would be unfair, dangerous, and would undermine the purpose of women’s sports. Nonetheless, they considered the erasure of the most important category boundary in sports, something that has never been done or even considered in the history of sports, a moral imperative, a human right. They wept thinking of the “rights” of men who claimed to be women. But when they think now about women, 51% of the population, they must be forced by contortion of their pocketbooks to grudgingly give women their due. They can’t seem to work up much weepy empathy for the human rights of half the population.

It’s even more remarkable that Title IX, a document built on the recognition of women as a separate but equal sex class deserving of rights based on their sex, ever became a federal law. It centered women. Sports organizations have never had that understanding of women.

Historically, major sports organizations vehemently opposed even offering women’s sports, and only came around to it when it became financially necessary. Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Olympic movement, excluded women from the Olympic Games saying women’s competition would be "impractical, uninteresting, unaesthetic, and unseemly.” After the International Women’s Sports Federation organized their own Women’s Olympiad, Coubertin was forced by public pressure and his desire to control the Olympic brand to include women’s competition. Note: right from the beginning, inclusion of women’s sports had nothing to do with recognizing or celebrating the achievements of women, but rather was a business decision made to benefit the men who ran the Olympic enterprise. By 1972, the year Title IX passed, male athletes still outnumbered female athletes at the summer Olympic Games by a rate of six to one. Since 2007, the Olympic charter has forced (not a suggestion) every sport to field a women’s division. Again, not to advance women’s sports or to provide more opportunities for women—it has nothing to do with women. It’s a business decision, to shine up the “gender parity” reputation of the Olympic brand, and one that sports governing bodies did not take to without considerable pressure.

The NCAA bitterly fought Title IX’s mandate to provide equal opportunities for women’s sports for ten years, saying it would take money away from men’s football and basketball, that it didn’t even apply since they don’t directly receive federal funds. They even sued the federal government saying Title IX was illegal. That lawsuit was dismissed in 1975. In an amazingly similar scenario to the man-centric Olympics, the NCAA ended up offering women’s sports, with coaching and championships and facilities, strictly as a way to drive the AIAW, that had organized women’s sports, out of business. Again, offering women’s sports was a way to cement their control over their world, college sports. It was a business decision that had nothing to do with recognizing the human rights of half the population. When I recently asked the NCAA if they had considered the preponderance of scientific evidence for mandating female-only women’s sports, or even (god forbid) the human right of women to sex-based sports and spaces, the communications agent pointed me to their press release. Nope, they hadn’t. President Charlie Baker was happy for the “clarity” the executive orders provided because, apparently, he’d been confused about whether men should be allowed in women’s sports. But the immediate and catastrophic loss of federal funds helped clear up his confusion. Translation: business decision that unavoidably protects women’s sex-based rights.

Some international sports organizations—World Athletics, World Rugby, World Aquatics, Cycling, and with leadership change and the debacle of the 2024 women’s boxing competition as motivation, the IOC—have, of their own accord, ensured female-only sports at the elite level. That sense of moral and scientific rectitude has not translated to their US affiliates. US sports organizations, quick to allow men in women’s sports, have grudgingly, foot-draggingly acquiesced to Trump’s executive orders as the latest business decision. It’s temporary. Necessary until the next administration comes along, when, hopefully, they can go back to allowing men in women’s sports. That’s where their heart is. That’s what their moral compass points to.

As history has shown, when women’s sports are not valued as a human right, as simply the right thing to do because: women, women lose. If US sports organizations, from the USOPC to NCAA to all the individual national governing bodies, don’t recognize women as worthy of their own sports, as men are, women’s sports will continue to be a political football. After more than a century, seeing women as a distinct yet equally worthy, fully human demographic has proven a task of Olympic proportion for US sports organizations. As they have loudly, proudly announced, it hasn’t happened yet.

As a result, it has created openings for new assaults on female sport.

USA Rugby now recognizes three competitive categories: Men’s, Open, and Women’s. If the Men’s and Women’s categories were, in fact, based on sex then the policy could use the same verbiage to define each, simply switching up the sex-relevant terms, i.e., male and female.

Instead, USA Rugby has three categories and three different ways of defining them.

The Men’s Division is for “any athlete registered as male.” The Women’s division “is limited to individuals who are assigned female at birth.” And the Open division “permits any athlete, regardless of the sex assigned at birth.”

The Men’s Division, then, is two degrees removed from sex. Anyone can enter it, as long as they are “registered” as male. This is USA Rugby’s in-house version of “passport sex.”

The Women’s division masquerades as biologically-based, but the “assigned at birth” construction undermines any claim of objectivity. But it’s worse than simply not understanding the nature of sex (i.e., it’s not “assigned,” ever, by anyone) or falling back on activist phraseology.

The subsequent section of the policy reveals that the basis of Women’s division is self-id:

Division Status will be determined during the membership application and registration process, when an athlete selects the “gender” option in Rugby Xplorer. When applying for membership or registering as “Female” or registering for an event in the Women’s Division, an athlete represents and warrants to USA Rugby that they are Female.

By selecting “Female” as “gender” (the problems are certainly stacking up here), the registrant “creates a rebuttable presumption” of being female. That is, you are what you say you are until someone can prove you are not.

USA Rugby itself is the only entity that can contest or challenge that presumption about an individual’s self-selected inspired-by-sex category. Players, coaches, match officials, league administrators, medical staff or anyone else would have to go all the way up the federation’s hierarchy if they wished to ensure that their women’s team was, in fact, a women’s team and was only competing against other teams of exclusively female athletes.

If USA Rugby agreed to open such a challenge to an individual’s gender registration, the investigation will turn on “records from authoritative sources.” This presumably means government-issued documents like birth certificates or driver’s licenses, both of which have lost their sex linkage in many states. The policy makes no mention of sex screening or any other objective, biologically-based determination.

Finally, USA Rugby’s repeated citation of Executive Order 14201 (“Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports”) shows how much they want us to believe that they are a fully compliant national governing body, but also that they are making these changes not of their own choosing but because their higher authority (the USOPC) demands it.

However, the policy’s mismatched definitions of the Men’s and Women’s categories are inconsistent with that EO and reveal the desperation behind their attempts to evade responsibility.

Executive Order 14201 takes its definitions from Executive Order 14168 (“Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”). That earlier executive order defines “man” and “woman” as “adult human male / female” (respectively); and then defines “male” and “female” as “belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small / large reproductive cell,” respectively.

Notice the chain of binaries here—man / woman, male / female, small / large—and contrast it to USA Rugby’s mushy pairing of “registered as” vs. “assigned at birth.” Those phrases are as incompatible with those executive orders as they are with biology.

“Open” to a hostile takeover

The “Open” category is often mooted as a solution that satisfies the requirements of fairness, safety, and inclusion. Philosopher and friend-of-the-show Jon Pike has argued for sport organizations to adopt “Female” and “Open” categories. Under this framework, only females—defined by the biological binary, and enforced as necessary (or desired) via sex screening—would be permitted in the “Female” category. The “open” category would be for males and any females who did not wish to compete in the female category.

But that is not what USA Rugby did: they created three categories. Almost immediately, trans activists began weaponizing the Open category against the female category and female athletes.

Rugby, despite looking like one of the most intuitively “this is why we sex-segregate” sports out there, is surprisingly trans-captured.

Your Scrumhalf Connection (YSC) is a women’s rugby news site founded and run by two former professional female rugby players. Well, that might have been true two weeks ago, but now it is an incomplete description.

“We aren’t just here to report the news. We are here to organize. If we want a game that remains for everyone, we must make the current policy unworkable.”

YSC described the new policy as “a dark milestone... effectively ending previous medical pathways for trans women,” with the “Open” category being “a ‘separate but equal’ structure,”

By the time I discovered the site on March 4, they claimed a mandate of nearly 300 rugby players who had participated in a virtual meeting on March 2, and accordingly “moved beyond the ‘wait and see’ phase and are now in active mobilization.”

Their first proposed action towards making the policy unworkable “[calls] on every women’s club in the United States to make a radical choice. Direct your club administrators to register your team for the Open Division. If the Women’s Division becomes empty because teams refuse to play without their trans teammates, the policy fails.”

If that proves logistically difficult, they’ll use the Men’s category to do the same.

A suggestion on the YSC’s “#RugbyForAll Open Question” sheet says “With the open division being so ambiguous... [c]an our women’s teams register as a mens team? There is nothing saying players registered as women can’t play for a men’s team. If all women’s teams did this would it not send a bigger message and possibly force policy changes faster?”

Think about that. Think about the physical danger that a single male athlete presents to female athletes in a sport like rugby. This person is proposing putting female players against entire teams of men.

Malice aforethought

These are not original ideas.

Cyclocross might be the most trans-captured of all sports. Last year, a Chicago cycling club created created an “Open” category for their events specifically to tank the women’s category.

Half Acre Cycling doesn’t mince words. “Trans women are women, and the rides and races that we sponsor are always welcoming to trans/femme/non-binary folks who do not identify as a man.”

Lamenting that USA Cycling’s “separate but equal categorization sucks,” they called on women to register for the “open” category and not the women’s category for their upcoming races. This would ensure an adequate field size for riders to get points for USAC standings. They went so far as to say that “[s]plitting up the women’s category into 2 groups is also discriminatory to cis women because in smaller fields it’s harder to upgrade. Women’s fields already had this problem, so support all women racing in the open category to increase field size.”

How racing against men in an “open” category would help female cyclists advance in their sport was, presumably, left to the reader’s imagination.

A prominent and controversial Chicago-area cyclist posted that she would “be choosing to race in the open wave and encouraging my friends to do the same.” But because encouragement has its limits, she adds “there will be a clear divide in where people choose to race.” And, “[i]f a dude decided he wanted to make a point and race in our category he could - but I think it would be met with obvious resistance from our community.”

Similarly aggressive tactics show up in Your Scrumhalf Connection’s list of suggested actions.

Remember that USA Rugby reserves the exclusive right to challenge a participant’s gender registration. YSC’s mobilization blueprints include several pages of email templates, one of which encourages “malicious compliance” to “overwhelm the system [and] turn this rule against itself.”

“I am writing to self-report an eligibility concern regarding my own registration status. I request that USA Rugby formally contest my status and establish my eligibility for the Women’s Division through records from authoritative sources as outlined in the policy.”

They are not looking to prove a point via a few test cases.

“If hundreds of athletes force the NGB to verify their records: the administrative cost and time required to enforce this policy will become unsustainable. Make the system buckle under its own weight.”

“Sexclusive” categories protect sport

USA Rugby brought this upon themselves by spurning—more likely, evading—the binary nature of sex. They probably didn’t foresee the administrative version of a dedicated denial of service attack by the chronically aggrieved, hateful, and bored.

But nature has a way of moving towards attractors. Any attempt to talk your way out of the sex binary will ultimately bring you back to some other n=2 categorization.

When offered as a third category, an “Open” division becomes an escape hatch from anything even nominally sex-based. Trans activists hope to use the “Open” division to drain female athletes from the female category. If that doesn’t work, they’ll use the Men’s category against the Women’s.

Mutatis mutandis, their hoped-for outcomes are either a return to the status quo ante, where males were permitted in the female category, or a “trans-inclusive” system where the options are “male” and “open.”

All roads lead to two categories, neither of which is a true female category.

The “female / open” framework at least recognizes the need for a binary based on or inspired by actual sex, and for having one category protected for one sex.

This could be tolerable, and maybe even necessary, as a short-term solution: someone described it to me recently as “a lily-pad towards sanity.” We could call it a gateway drug for reality (gotta ease your way towards that red pill).

However, we should not accept it as a permanent solution, not even as a compromise.

At best, the “open / female” framework is based on actual sex: we know there are two sexes and we want to protect a category for one of them, so we’ll have one sex-protected category.

The biological realities of sex—from its definition all the way through the many attributes of male advantage in sport—are the basis for the female category. There is no such basis for an “open” category.

“Open” is not a sex. Going along with our movie analogy, the “open” category is the equivalent of a composite character: a person who didn’t exist, but their invention reduces the cast of characters and streamlines the screenplay, making it easier on everyone from the screenwriter to the costumer to the producers to the audience.

The “open / female” framework also implies that one sex is default, and one is special; that one is privileged and one is protected.

Sport policy researcher and consultant Cathy Devine argues that this approach “reverts to ‘sport’ & ‘women’s sport’ which female athletes struggled for decades to escape.” In a X exchange with Jon Pike, Ross Tucker, and others, Devine also makes her case against the term “sex protected.” After some synonym suggestions, Devine said “We don’t need ‘protect’, ‘ring-fence’ or any other default from male. ‘Female’ describes the category & the position in it’s entirety. ‘Protect’ and ‘ring-fence’ are superfluous.”

My own synonym search over the days that I’ve been working on this article tended towards “sex-defined” or “sex-identified,” the latter being a way to reclaim “identified” from the trans activists.

More than word choice, though, is the idea that those adjectives should apply to both the male and female categories. Because the two sexes are mutually exclusive, complementary, and equivalent, sex categories in sport should be the same. Both should be defined and restricted according to sex.

Accordingly, and because I do love a portmanteau, I’m laying down my marker for “sexclusive” categories.

Pike and Devine, in their X conversation, recognize the inevitability and, at times, desirability of exceptions to this rule. At the policy level, de jure, there can be no exceptions. But down at pitch level, de facto, there might be. However, any such exception for an athlete to play on a team of the opposite sex would have to be determined by the individual athletes, coaches, and (as applicable) parents, by mutual uncoerced agreement. That is, it would require informed consent.

“Sexclusive” categories do not exclude anyone from sport. Neither do they imply that one category or its members need defending or protecting. They are objective, neutral, and universal, which should be the standards for any policy or law in sport or elsewhere.

That some people find this objectionable and worthy of “by any means necessary” organized opposition is a reminder that these conversations may seem ridiculous, but they are far from frivolous.

By mandating that boys can join girls’ sports and use girls’ locker rooms, the state of Washington and the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) have, for the last 19 years, facilitated sexual abuse of girls on an industrial scale. Sexual harassment, voyeurism, indecent exposure, sexual assault, and rape. These are state sponsored, state enabled, state facilitated, state orchestrated offenses against ALL girls in every public middle school and high school in the state. Calling it inclusion does not make voyeurism and indecent exposure legal. Making misdemeanors and felonies a law does not make them any less illegal. If anything, it makes them more egregious.

I am writing this in bold font because I don’t think most people have seen”inclusion” for what it is—state facilitated crimes against girls.

Any boy is free to come into the girls’ locker room, watch girls undress and shower without their consent in a place they have reasonable expectation of privacy—and they have. That’s the definition of voyeurism. Any boy is free to expose himself to girls in the girls’ locker room causing affront and offense—and they have. That’s the definition of indecent exposure. By being in the locker room and on the playing field in close physical contact with girls, spaces that are designated for females, boys necessarily create a hostile, offensive, and intimidating environment that’s sexual in nature—and they have. That’s the definition of sexual harassment. By state mandate, boys are provided the opportunity to touch, grab, sexually assault, or rape girls—and they have.

No one, certainly not girls, not even school officials, can question them or prevent them from perpetrating these crimes. Because Washington has made the opportunity for sexual abuse of girls a state law. Think about that. It’s been going on for 19 years. Think about the number of girls violated. By state law.

”They’re not just saying if you want to do this, it’s okay. They are making opportunities—let us help you, we will open the door for you, let us put you in the right position. They have orchestrated opportunities for sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and even rape.” This from Kim Jones, co-founder of ICONS, the Independent Council on Women’s Sport.

What could be even more appalling than state facilitated sexual abuse of girls?

“I was at the 2023 ICONS conference where Paula Scanlan spoke,” Kara Dansky recalled. “I mentioned that what happened with Will Thomas [being naked in the women’s locker room] violated Penn’s own internal policies on sexual harassment. Paula told me, ‘Until this minute, it hadn’t occurred to me that this constituted sexual harassment.’”

As an NCAA athlete, Scanlan had taken training on how to identify sexual harassment, how to protect yourself from it, what to do about it. But she didn’t recognize sexual harassment for what it was—an illegal offense—because Penn was enforcing it. It was their policy.

“They [girls] don’t know, they don’t realize it,” Dansky said. “They’ve been gaslit so thoroughly. They’re required to believe some boys are girls and they’re threatened if they complain. They’re told they need to seek counseling to get over their discomfort with being naked in front of a naked man. They’re told they’re being mean and insufficiently inclusive.”

The public at large has been similarly gaslit. We all know what voyeurism is, what indecent exposure is, what sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape are. We know those are misdemeanors or felonies. But we don’t recognize them as such when they’re mandated by state law. We’re blinded by the overwhelming cognitive dissonance that a state law is facilitating something unlawful against teenage girls. We can’t wrap our minds around the fact that governments, schools, athletic associations whose job it is to protect and uphold the rights of girls, and who constantly claim that they are dedicated to safety, are in fact knowingly facilitating sexual harassment, voyeurism, indecent exposure, and are providing opportunities for sexual assault, and rape, on an industrial scale. All girls, in all middle schools and high schools, in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Maine, Massachusetts, 21 states in all, for over a decade. It’s so massive and so appalling and so blatant, people, particularly those responsible, don’t want to see it for what it is. They pretend they can’t see it. They call it inclusion. Every lawmaker in Washington, every principal, every athletic director, every member of the WIAA knows that boys watching girls undress and shower is not inclusion, it’s voyeurism. They know a male sticking his fingers in a girls’ vagina during a wrestling match is not inclusion, it’s rape. A state facilitated, state orchestrated Class C Felony.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office found probable cause that a male competing on the Emerald Ridge High School girls’ wrestling team raped a female competitor during a match on December 5, 2025. The case has been forwarded to the state prosecutor. Rape in the third degree is a Class C Felony.

Washington lawmakers, school administrators at all levels, and WIAA members are all aware that about 96% of rapists are male, and about 90% of the victims of rape are female. These overwhelming stats, along with males’ indisputable advantage in sports, underpin sex separated sports, locker rooms, and bathrooms. By mandating that boys be allowed to join girls’ sports and use girls’ locker rooms, they knowingly orchestrate opportunities for rape to happen. They removed all barriers, provided boys every opportunity to rape—close physical contact both on the field or mat and in the locker room—and hid boys’ sex from girls, thereby preventing girls from being able to protect themselves.

The female wrestler, 16-year-old Kallie Keeler, in keeping with WIAA policy of protecting trans-identified athlete’s privacy, was not told her opponent was male before the match, and neither was her coach. LGB Courage Coalition commented:

“Beyond Title IX, Keeler may have grounds for a straightforward negligence claim. Her own coach admitted in writing that he would not have allowed her to compete had he known her opponent was male. That admission establishes that the risk was foreseeable, that a trained professional recognized it, and that the district’s decision to withhold the biological sex of her opponent directly caused her harm.”

After the match, another coach told her her opponent was male. Keeler filed a complaint with her school, Rogers High School, saying her opponent put his fingers in her vagina during the match. This alleged assault was captured on video.

Rogers High School promised Keeler and her mother they would do “due diligence,” which means mandatory reporting of the complaint to law enforcement. But they did nothing. For 54 days. And would have continued to do nothing had journalist Brandi Kruse not publicized the alleged assault. Rogers High School finally contacted Pierce County Sheriff’s Office on January 30. A mandated reporter failing to report a complaint of sexual abuse within 48 hours is itself an offense.

During those 54 days, 13 female athletes at Emerald Ridge High School, including girls on the wrestling team with the male wrestler, filed a complaint with their school that some boys in their locker room were making them uncomfortable as they undressed. The boys weren’t changing clothes; they were just watching the girls do so. That’s voyeurism. The girls simply did not recognize it as the offense that it is. One of those boys was the wrestler who was accused of sexual assault. The principal, Ed Crow, sent an email to the girls' parents, saying he'd spoken with the "girls" (boys), asking them to use a different changing space. Even if he had to pretend this was not voyeurism, the principal understood the reality of the situation—that females were uncomfortable undressing in front of males, and that this was not right. The boys did not come into the girls’ locker room, for one day. But then they decided they wanted to use the girls' locker room, because they could. By law. So they returned to the girls’ locker room, just watching the girls undress. And no one, not even school officials, could prevent them. When the girls again complained to Emerald Ridge school officials about the fact that the boys were still in their locker room, watching them undress, they were presented with printouts defining gender identity concepts.

Voyeurism may be easier to pass off as boys using the locker room that aligns with their gender identity, but rape is harder to rename. Disgustingly, the violation had to rise to the level of rape before the criminality of the whole scheme could be seen.

In Washington, voyeurism is defined as the non-consensual, surreptitious viewing, photographing, or filming of a person’s intimate areas or nudity in a place with a reasonable expectation of privacy for sexual gratification. It is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, with required sex offender registration.

Sputtering excuses could be made that the boys were merely in the girls’ locker room to change their clothes, but they were not changing their clothes. They were watching the girls undress. It would be a stretch to say this was for any purpose other than sexual gratification.

In Washington, indecent exposure (RCW 9A.88.010) is defined as intentionally exposing oneself or another in an open, obscene manner, knowing it is likely to cause alarm or affront. It is typically a misdemeanor (90 days jail, $1,000 fine), but upgrades to a gross misdemeanor for victims under 14 and potentially a Class C felony for repeat offenders.

Again, since middle school and high school boys are 100% intact males, (of course Will (Lia) Thomas was intact), girls will quite naturally experience alarm or affront when presented with male genitalia in their locker room. They may be conditioned to accept it, but the instinct is there. Naked boys in the girls’ locker room is indecent exposure.

Sexual harassment is defined as a "form of illegal sex discrimination involving unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct that is based on sex. It is illegal …when it creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment. All forms of sexual harassment are illegal, and employers may be liable for this behavior if they do not take the proper steps to address it.”

Being male with a penis and testes, something all girls know on sight, creates an intimidating, hostile, and offensive environment in what should be an all-female environment. Gender identity is irrelevant. It’s stupid to pretend otherwise.

These definitions speak to individual instances. I found nothing that addressed institutionalized sexual harassment, institutionalized voywurism or indecent exposure, probably because governments had not thought, prior to the capture by gender ideology, to institutionalize something that they had already deemed illegal.

Washington and the 20 other states that facilitate sexual offenses against girls disguise their complicity in crime by calling it inclusion. We have to see it for what it is.

Serious question. Scientists, and I’m talking about the ones who don’t have to tell you they’re scientists along with their pronouns, have been busy for more than two decades countering, and thus validating, the claims of flat earthers. Convinced of their exclusive access to the enlightened Word of Flat Earth, these true believers employ special Flat Earth Science, which is the only kind that exists on Flat Earth, to prove that the earth is flat. This is, of course, tin foil hat territory—one cannot talk rationally with radical ideologues—and yet it’s the way of legitimate science not to dismiss even the most florid bodily effluent out of hand. Science tries to counter the most factually impossible theories using the scientific method. Real science. Of course, real science is laborious and expensive and takes a lot of time. Whereas Flat Earth Science—working backward from the desired conclusion, no controls, no method, and conclusions that are utterly independent of the results of the “experiment”—can, by a creative person, be accomplished as fast as he can write, And therefore the earth is flat. Because flat earthers have infiltrated scientific journals, their nutty musings are published in formerly legitimate journals, and splashed across the headlines of major media. And flat earth is suddenly just as valid a theory as round earth. Maybe more so, because it is blasted by the media as New! and Improved! and proof that the average person who once flew to Bangkok (aROUND the earth) is hopelessly behind the times. Then round earth scientists spend another decade obeying the parameters of the scientific method exploring the question of whether the earth is flat. Because, no matter how insane the claim, legitimate science must always question “accepted” knowledge. Is the earth really round if The New York Times reports that it’s flat?

As it turns out, legitimate science is no match for made up bullshit. It’s nearly impossible to prove that a vividly hatched fiction is a vividly hatched fiction using legitimate science because they exist in different universes—one exists only in the fevered mind of its adherents, and the other exists in the real world. The world of gravity and the globe-shaped earth orbiting the sun.

I am, of course, talking about transgenderism. Adherents, some of who identify both as women and as scientists, claim, as it suits, that there is a third kind of human or that a woman can be born in a man’s body or that men can become women by messing with their hormones. This synaptic malfunction has come to be seen as equally as valid as the idea of two immutable sexes, which is the mechanism by which our species has reproduced for the past 8 million years, conservatively. Transgenderists are welcome to have these beliefs, but they are not equally valid.

Science is about asking questions, but the immutability of binary sex and downstream of that, sex differences that underpin women’s rights, have been answered comprehensively in theory and in practice. This is one of the most foundational truths of human life. Elevating an unverifiable belief hatched within the last 60 years to equal standing with a fact that is scientifically and empirically verified every time a baby is born has not advanced science. Quite the opposite. Treating transgenderism as a valid theory has validated fake science and destroyed trust in legitimate science. It has the surface appearance of science to the untrained eye. It identifies as science, but it is not science. It has had disastrous effect on our society—eroding trust in foundational shared truths. It’s not that most people believe men are or can become women, or some third sex—they don’t—but rather that they don’t believe anything. Erosion of shared truths is profoundly destabilizing. It’s as if, suddenly, some people declare that a red light meant go, not stop. That is their truth. And if traffic laws are not to be believed, what else is up for grabs? It is not hyperbole to say this is civilization ending stuff.

I’ve veered from sports. Let’s have a look at some Flat Earth Science that, after being recently published in the prestigious British Journal of Sports Medicine, was splashed across the pages of nearly every mainstream media outlet you can think of. It’s a systematic review, meaning it’s not new data but rather a mashup of a number of studies that reaches an amalgamated conclusion, and that conclusion was that “trans women” who had suppressed their testosterone had no sports advantage over “cis women.” New! Improved! Shocking! And not science! Just as only Flat Earth Science can support flat earth theory, this review and the studies it included employed something that identified as science, something that gave the appearance of science, but was not in fact legitimate science to arrive at that conclusion.

A number of scientists, people who are on a first name basis with the scientific method, have revealed the flaws in this WIDELY publicized paper, one of the most comprehensive rebuttals on a substack called Void If Removed. (Let it not escape our attention that actual scientists are having to use substack and X to self-publish actual science). The author goes into great detail explaining the review’s legion shortcomings, but the short version is:

On even a cursory inspection of the paper it turns out this whole thing is a mixture of linguistic sleight-of-hand and the mixing of quite different studies into a meaningless result. This is long and detailed and covers multiple issues but the tl;dr version is: these findings are almost entirely down to one paper by another group of researchers at São Paulo University which compared weak men to national-level female athletes.

Sports policy researcher Cathy Devine also pointed out on X how the review fell short of real science:

'A team of researchers at São Paulo University conducted research at the request of men with a vested interest in being included in female sports, which compared below-average men with low grip strength to national-level female athletes in the top 1% of female performance.”

“Another team ...included this in a systematic review ..- instead of dropping it because of the clear methodological issues and confounding factors - combined it with multiple other studies that can’t be directly compared, and produced a result so incoherent as to be meaningless'

“They declared in their conclusion that because they had a meaningless result they had found an “absence of strength disparities”, while arguing their research was evidence against “blanket bans”.”

'This was immediately picked up and circulated widely - from news outlets to Wikipedia - as clear evidence that male athletes given cross-sex hormones do not have a performance advantage against female athletes, and thus should not be subject to blanket bans.'

In all comparisons of “trans women’s” performance with women’s performance, the males are aware that they “should” have lost strength and ability, so there is every incentive for them to underperform. Though there are methods that can control for underperformance, in most cases, these protocols were not followed. Flat Earth/Transgender Science, my friends.

Joanna Harper, a man who identifies as a woman, famously paid to have his collection of self-reported running times from seven other rans-identified male runners, and his own, published as a “study.” This unscientific personal observation of eight subjects (!) was latched onto by the International Olympic Committee as the basis for its 2015 policy of including males in all female sports. That Harper was and still is (“it’s the hill I will die on,” he said) personally invested in male inclusion made him an “expert” in Transgender Science. In legitimate science, he is so compromised as to be a disqualifying conflict of interest.

Even jerryrigging the data for more than a decade, Harper has found male advantage remains after three years of testosterone suppression, but instead of admitting this fact, he stated that “trans women” could compete in women’s sports “meaningfully.” Meaningful competition is not the same as fair competition, but Harper has never defined what that difference is, nor has he defined “meaningful.” Invented, undefined language is part and parcel of Transgender Science; it is the antithesis of legitimate science.

In a 2025 Play The Game conference, Harper tore off the facade of science and went full Flat Earth. Desperately, vehemently rejecting the idea that males who identified as women could compete in an Open category, he sputtered:

“Trans women aren’t men. They don’t compete like men, don’t look like men…”

Read that again. Harper, who identifies as a scientist, claims trans women aren’t men, relying on the height of sexist nonscience—they don’t look like men. Would that be long hair? Fake breasts? What about women who have short hair? Should they compete in the male category? In what world would someone who has been paid handsomely by the IOC as a “scientist” utter this embarrassing admission of incompetence? This is not valid and it’s not science. It’s Flat Earth Science, and yet, Harper was an invited speaker at this prestigious conference where his “argument”—trans women are not men because they don’t look like men—was counted as equally valid as Jon Pike’s, that since sex is immutable and the female category is designed to exclude male advantage, “trans women” can compete fairly in an Open category. Platforming these two arguments as equally valid made a mockery of science. It did not advance knowledge, it destroyed trust.

That “trans women” are not biological men at all is a favored claim of Transgender Science. That' wass the New and Improved Transgender Science! takeaway in a 2024 article in The New York Times.

The very vulnerable Jere Longman wrote breathlessly: “The study’s most important finding, according to one of its authors, Yannis Pitsiladis, a member of the I.O.C.’s medical and scientific commission, was that, given physiological differences, ‘Trans women are not biological men.’”

I emailed Pitsiladis just last week for clarification on this bombshell, asking: In what way are trans women not biological men? If they were born with a penis and testicles, how are they not men? If they are not biological men, are they female? Are trans women a third sex?

Pitsiladis replied: To clarify what I meant: trans women remain chromosomally male—that does not change. My point was about biology beyond chromosomes. Once someone transitions, their biology changes in meaningful ways that make them no longer “male” in the physiological sense relevant to sport.

He went on to mention malleable physiological measurements that are all downstream of chromosomes, measurements that do not determine or change sex, as any legitimate sport scientist knows:

With hormone therapy, trans women experience substantial shifts in circulating testosterone, muscle mass, strength, hemoglobin, and other physiological parameters. Over time, these changes mean that their functional biology—their hormones, muscle characteristics, and other performance-related traits—is no longer the same as that of typical males who have gone through male puberty without suppression. That was the distinction I was trying to communicate.

I followed up: From what you’ve described, trans women are males who have reduced their physical/sports capabilities. They are men who’ve made themselves weaker. Women are generally weaker than men, but they are not weak men. They are a unique sex. Would you agree with that?

I got no response, so I emailed again: Maybe I’m not understanding you. Can we arrange a phone call?

Answer came there none. What The New York Times published as a quote from Pitsiladis—trans women are not biological men—is, even by his own admission, a lie. Their chromosomes do not change. They are still males. Other biological metrics can be fiddled with but Pitsiladis knows, these metrics do not change one’s sex. Longman, to his credit, did reach out to a legitimate scientist, Dr. Michael Joyner at the Mayo Clinic who focuses on sex differences in sports. Joyner said:

“We know testosterone is performance enhancing, And we know testosterone has residual effects.” Additionally, he added, declines in performance by trans women after taking drugs to suppress their testosterone levels do not fully reduce the typical differences in athletic performance between men and women.”

Pitsiladis’ Transgender Science lie, positioned as as valid, if not more so, than Joyner’s foundational truth sets science back. Entertaining the idea that men can somehow become not men validates Flat Earth Science. Transgender Science simply is not worthy of consideration. It makes a mockery of science, it’s regression, it does not advance knowledge, and it erodes trust in the protocols of legitimate science. Transgender Science, like Flat Earth Science, has a right to exist, but it has been extremely destructive to society as a whole to treat these nonscience, fantastical musings as valid challenges to the most foundational truths of human life.

Female mogul skier Elis Lundholm has provided a really world class disproval of the trans activist shibboleth that transgender people can ONLY get the benefits of sports by participating according to their gender identity. And that being “forced” to participate in sports in their sex category will result in exacerbating already prevalent depression, isolation, and suicidal thoughts and behavior.

Ballyhooed by nearly every news and sports outlet in the world, including Outsports, as the only out transgender athlete in the winter Olympics, every one of those headlines unwittingly exposes the giant lies they’ve all been propagating—that participating in one’s sex category will cause trans-identified athletes existential suffering (cease to exist, genocide, spontaneous combustion); that they will be harassed and bullied by other athletes because of their identity; and that they are banned from sports. They’ve all just announced in 48 point font that none of that is true. Oops.

Lundholm, representing Sweden in the Milan Olympics, identifies as a man but has always competed on the women’s team. The Sweden Herald reported that Lundholm has never had a problem competing as a woman and said, “I’ve always been treated well.” Problematically for trans activists, these do not sound like the words of a suicidal victim of bullying and oppression.

Not only does she exist, identity intact, she’s thrived. Only 23 years old, Lundholm has competed at the pointy peak of a physically and mentally demanding sport for the last three years.

Her short hair has not thrown any of her fellow female skiers for a loop, nor has her identity, because they know she is a female competing in her sex category. No problem. All the athletes at the elite level are tested for performance enhancing drugs, including testosterone, so they know everyone’s competing fairly. Clearly, Lundholm’s identity is irrelevant to the other female athletes. They know, Lundholm knows, everyone knows, sex matters, not gender identity. NO ONE HATES TRANS-IDENTIFIED ATHLETES BECAUSE OF THEIR IDENTITY. That is a lie invented to create “marginalized,” “vulnerable,” victim status, in need of special protections and special rights. For males who claim to be women. As a female, Lundholm is enjoying fair and safe female-only competition which, stupidly, trans activists and ideologically captured media are fighting tooth and nail to destroy.

Lundholm has been asked repeatedly by reporters about “online hate,” assuming that of course she would be receiving “hate” because she is transgender. Because that is the narrative trans activists and captured media have flogged endlessly. After reading loads of comments and online discussion, the only “hate” I saw was misunderstanding of her sex—media’s ideological description of Lundholm as a “trans man” and use of he/him pronouns led some to think she is a male competing in women’s skiing. They reacted negatively to what they thought was a man in women’s skiing. This is not transgender hate but a failure of media to report accurately. Ironically, the media is directly responsible for any “hate” Lundholm receives by substituting her gender identity for the fact of her sex. Once people understand that she is a female competing in women’s skiing, no one has a problem with it. “Hate” disappears.

In exactly the same way, the only “hate” Olympic track star Nikki Hiltz and Olympic soccer player Quinn receive is from people who are confused by those athletes’ insistence that they are trans nonbinary, whatever that means, and in the case of Hiltz, her loud assertion that she is not a woman. The gaslit public thinks these athletes are male competing in female sports. They don’t “hate” trans athletes—they’ve been lied to. They don’t understand the facts. And they wonder, very reasonably, why trans-identified athletes like Hiltz, like Quinn, like Lundholm don’t compete according to their gender identity. Lundholm wants to be seen and treated like a man. The obvious question is why isn’t she competing in men’s skiing?

To be clear, Lundholm has always had that choice. From her first entry in a ski race, the male category was open to her. She can even use testosterone and still compete in the male category according to IOC policy. Although she told reporters she “hasn’t thought much about it,” meaning claiming to be a trans man but competing in women’s skiing, over and over, she has chosen to compete according to her sex. She has chosen not to take testosterone in order to maintain her eligibility for the women’s category. These are conscious choices she’s made at multiple junctures in her career. Men’s average speed on a mogul course is 26..4 mph; women’s is 23 mph. Lundholm finished 25th in women’s moguls qualifying rounds and did not move on to the final. Given that she’s not a top women’s elite skier, even doped, she would not have even qualified for the men’s Olympic team. Though she professes not to have thought about it much, it has certainly not eluded her that she would not have a career in men’s skiing, and that her Olympic berth in women’s skiing is predicated on female-only competition. If males who identified as women “just were themselves and did what they wanted,” as Lundholm advised trans-identified kids to do, there is every chance she would have been bumped off of team Sweden.

The subtext to Lundholm’s story is that men with feminine identities can participate in their sex category too. They will not spontaneously combust. They will not cease to exist as a person with a special identity. The very few examples of males with trans identities competing in their sex category—I’m thinking of UK cyclist Emily Bridges who continued to compete very successfully on the men’s team while swapping his hormones, and Virginia high schooler Eliza Munshi who competed in boys’ track—demonstrate they were welcomed with no hostility. No bullying or harassment. Their identities were not dented or damaged by competing with men.

Lundholm’s belief system requires that she do some complicated mental flips to support her reveries about herself, but her story as the media reports it, does not come off as that of a woman with a masculine identity who bravely overcame nonexistent barriers to compete with other women while rocking short hair.

Rather, with every virtue signaling he/him pronoun, the media unwittingly exposes the central giant lie that gender identity trumps sex, that to participate in sports in one’s sex category is tantamount to genocide, to denial of one’s existence, and that trans-identified athletes are banned from sports. She demonstrates that none of that is true. As desperately as captured media want to make Lundholm’s story a triumph of marginalized transgenderism, they can’t help revealing that that’s a lie. No matter what pronouns they use, Elis Lundholm is a gold-plated, flag waving demonstration of the supremacy of sex in sports.

The Williams Institute at UCLA researched and published a report on The Impact of Transgender Sports Participation Bans on Transgender People in the US. The “bans” they talk about are laws requiring that people with trans identities compete in sports according to their sex, see also: Title IX. Below are their findings regarding benefits of sports and risks of “exclusion.”

Benefits of Sports Participation. It has been correlated with higher levels of self-esteem, lower levels of depression, and greater school belonging among LGBTQ youth. 73 Additionally, one study found that transgender and nonbinary students who participated in sports reported higher grades compared to those who did not participate. 74 Another study found that transgender students who participated in collegiate sports may be less likely to report psychological distress, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and suicidal behavior compared to transgender students who did not participate in sports.75 If transgender girls and women are not allowed to participate in sports based on their gender identity, they could be denied these and other benefits.

Risks of Exclusion. Exclusion from sports could also result in discrimination or harassment for transgender students. A recent study using YRBSS data found that transgender high school students report disproportionate bullying, persistent hopelessness, and suicidal ideation compared to cisgender students.76 Evidence suggests that transgender students in higher education may also experience greater levels of harassment and discrimination, have a more negative perception of campus and classroom climates, and feel less accepted as part of the campus community compared to cisgender students.77 Any of these disparities could be made worse if transgender students are denied participation in school sports or forced to participate consistent with their sex assigned at birth under a federal ban.

The authors cited studies that support both benefits and risks of exclusion, which are all equally applicable to ANY child regardless of identity or lack thereof, but they editorialized on the final and most important sentence in each section—that these benefits could be denied and risks enhanced if children were “forced” to participate in sports consistent with their sex.

There was no supporting evidence of that. No citation. Their evidence compared suicidal thoughts and behavior in trans students who participated in sports versus trans students who did not participate in sports. The studies did not compare trans-identified kids who participated in sports according to their gender identity with those who participated according to their sex. The Williams Institute deliberately left out the fact that the benefits of sports can, and have been enjoyed by participating in one’s sex category. Another compared rates of bullying, hopelessness and suicidal ideation among trans-identified students versus not-transgender identified students. Again, unrelated to any kind of sports involvement at all. The risks of “exclusion from sports” mentioned were the experiences of trans students because they were trans—nothing to do with involvement in sports. Their own evidence suggests these risks were irrespective of sports. It’s a pretty massive, unevidenced, and misleading leap to blame suicidal behavior, lower grades, depression, and lack of belonging on the trauma of playing sports in accordance with one’s sex. But that’s what the Williams Institute did.

Since sex-separate sports have been the law in 27 states for at least a year, I reached out to the Williams Institute to see if they had qualitative information on trans-identified kids (Williams Institute focused on kids ages 13-17, high school age) living in those states. Had those kids quit sports? Or had they joined sports in accordance with their sex? Had kids in these states been denied the benefits of sports, and experienced the enhanced risks the Williams Institute said would happen since they “were forced” to play on the correct sex team?

Remember the story the Washington Post did on trans-identified male high schooler Eliza Munshi in April of 2025? A senior at a Falls Church, Virginia high school, Munshi originally joined the girls’ track team, but just days into the season he was told he could no longer participate on the girls’ team because the Virginia High School League was following the Executive Order that upheld Title IX’s sex-based requirements. Them, an LGBTQ news site, wrote:

Not wanting her participation to negatively affect her friends on the girls’ team, Munshi told her coach she would compete on the boys’ team instead. She told the Post that despite the policy changes, everyone at her school has continued to make her feel welcome. “Sometimes I forget I’m transgender. People around me forget too,” she wrote last year in a college admissions essay, per the Post.

According to the Post, Munshi was not very competitive in the boys’ discus (he could have been a mediocre athlete, or he could have hobbled his ability with puberty blockers) in which he competed, but overall he seemed well adjusted, satisfied with his experience, and enjoying all the benefits of sports—camaraderie, friendships, challenge, and physical activity—even though he was not competing in alignment with his gender identity. He didn’t express negative feelings, depression, or not belonging. Quite the opposite. He felt welcomed on the boys’ team, and more importantly, everyone else, boys and girls, was fine with it too. No unfairness, he wasn’t taking anyone’s spot or opportunity, and his teammates welcomed him as a boy who identifies as a girl. Which is to say, as his authentic self. By all accounts, a roaring success of inclusion.

But I’ve never read another story like this. Certainly, Munshi’s story does not support the Williams Institute’s dire claims, but maybe he was an outlier. Maybe Williams Institute had lots of stories of kids in those 27 (it’s now up to 29) states that mandate sex-based sports who are dropping out of sports, reporting increased depression, lower grades, suicidal thoughts and behavior. Stories of a steep decline in mental and physical health. Stories that supported their claims of bad things that could happen if kids were denied the ability to choose what team they wanted to play on. One would think this would be an important piece of Williams Institute’s research.

Nope. Williams Institute does not gather qualitative data. Only quantitative—they keep track of numbers; the number of trans kids affected, not how they were affected. (I’ll get to some fun with their numbers a little further down). The very responsive communications agent at Williams Institute suggested I try Athlete Ally for the qualitative informative I sought. Athlete Ally also didn’t have that info, and pointed me to The Trevor Project or GLAAD. More on that in a minute.

This gaping hole in Williams Institute’s research seems very strange. If what the Williams Institute claimed could happen was actually happening, and hundreds of thousands (yes thousands per their research, not one or ten—I’ll get to that) of trans-identifying kids were quitting sports and getting lower grades and really failing to thrive, and Williams Institute had these personal stories of the damage caused, imagine how powerful that would be. It’s almost incomprehensible that they wouldn’t have this information. Almost like they don’t want to know how kids with trans identities are actually faring when “forced” to do sports according to their sex. What if they were like Eliza Munshi? What if all that bad stuff Williams Institute claimed could happen, wasn’t happening?

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project bills itself as a suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ youth. If you’re a hammer, every problem is a nail. “LGBTQ young people, especially trans youth, are four times as likely to [I missed it—either contemplate or commit] suicide. We should really be working hard to make sure they can be part of a team and valued for who they are.” That, from Casey Pick, Director of Law and Policy at The Trevor Project.

Full disclosure: The only reason I was able to talk with Casey Pick at all is because, on the contact form, I correctly identified my title as “freelance journalist” but fibbed in the field that asked the outlet for which I was working. I entered the name of an LGBTQ news site. Hear me out—several times over the course of our exchange, I reiterated that I was a freelancer, that I did not have an assignment from said outlet, and was writing an article on spec. The article I was writing had not been accepted anywhere. Assuming I was an LGBTQ “journalist,” Pick spoke easily, confident I would accept anything she said unquestioningly. I felt a little bad about my fib. But not that bad.

Immediately after our conversation, I scampered on over to The Trevor Project’s Suicide Facts web page. Five of the eight facts about suicide specifically compared LGB youth with heterosexual youth. The T, trans youth, were not included in those statistics. Pick’s “four times as likely” did not agree with any of their facts—contemplate suicide, three times as likely as heterosexual youth; attempt suicide, five times more likely; suicide attempts requiring medical treatment, five times as likely; suicide attempts resulting in injury, poisoning or overdose, 4 to 6 times as likely; suicide attempts because of family rejection, 8.4 times as likely. All of those facts specifically applied to LGB youth, not transgender. The only fact involving trans individuals was that 40% of trans adults had attempted suicide, and 92% of those attempts were made before age 25.

AS HORRIFIC AS THESE SUICIDE STATISTICS ARE, IT’S BEYOND UNCONSCIONABLE TO MISREPRESENT AND MISUSE THEM FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES. Not only was the “four times more likely” statistic Pick quoted me incorrect according to their own research, it did not apply to trans kids, and most importantly, there was zero evidence that kids with trans identities contemplated or attempted suicide because they could not participate in sports in accordance with their gender identity. Yet, Pick repeatedly made that connection. Just like the Williams Institute.

I told Pick I was looking for qualitative data on how “sports bans” (when in Rome…) affected transgender youth. Did they quit sports? Did they join sports according to their sex? Did they move out of state? Did they report increased depression? Pick said The Trevor Project had “qualitative impressions,” but that she had not done the “cross sectional work” to answer those questions directly. From there she launched into a practiced, and largely irrelevant, script : “They’re demonized as cheaters, as dangerous. All they want to do is participate in sports with their classmates for all the same reasons as their classmates—for fun, for a sense of belonging,” She mentioned that only one in three LGBTQ youth participated in sports but did not have stats on just teens with trans identities, nor a comparison of those who live in states where trans-identified teens can play according to their gender identity with those who live in states with sex-separated sports.

So, no, The Trevor Project does not know how the 382,800 trans-identified teens in states where Title IX is honored are affected because of the so-called sports bans. Maybe those teens have responded like Eliza Munshi. If so, it’s unlikely a trans-identified athlete like Munshi would have called in to The Trevor Project’s suicide prevention hotline—the source of their “data”—to tell them he’d joined the boys’ team and was busy getting all those sports benefits, thank you very much. The information they have, like the Williams Institute’s, describes possible harms that apply to virtually ALL teens who are not participating in sports, and includes trans-identified teens living in states where they can participate according to their gender identity. Blaming sex-separated sports policies for any LGBTQ+ youth, of any age, living in any state, who is distressed enough to call The Trevor Project suicide prevention hotline, not participating in sports is unevidenced, unscientific, and irresponsible.

Fun With Numbers

So I came up empty on what kids ages 13 to 17 with trans identities who live in the 29 states that mandate sex-based sports participation are actually doing. But Williams Institute just published an updated report titled the Impact of 2025 State Anti-Transgender Legislation on youth. This updates the report that I linked to way up above that they published in February 2025. I surmised because of the Executive Orders, fewer kids would even identify as trans, or fewer of those who did identify as trans would participate in sports because they’d have to play in their sex category. But that’s not what the numbers showed at all.

The Williams Institute report published in February 2025 stated there were 117,400 trans-identified kids age 13-17 who lived in the 27 states that mandated sports participation by sex. They used federal Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) data that estimated 40.7% of trans-identified high schoolers nationally participate in sports. But there was no comparison of the rates of trans participation in sports in states with gender self-ID versus states with sex-separated sports.

If you’re researching the impact of “sports bans” on trans-identified kids, comparing the rate of participation between states that allowed gender self-ID and those that followed sex-based standards would seem to be THE most relevant data point. But Williams Institute did not run that comparison.

“Because YRBS is national data, we would have had to figure out participation rates state by state,” said Elana Redfield, Director of Policy at Williams Institute. “Some states would have a 20% rate of participation, others 50% , and not all states submit that data. It doesn’t justify analysis. The sources are too limited to be able to do analysis. It’s not off the table that we would never do it, but it wouldn’t be applicable to understanding the policy environment.” Huh.

Redfield admitted they don’t know how many trans-identified kids aged 13-17 are actually participating in sports, nor if they are participating according to their gender identity or their sex. “There are a lot of unknowns, but the YRBS data shows in general trans kids have low participation rates. We have to be careful not to over-estimate when in reality, the rates are very low. We’re trying to show what we can by using rigorous scientific methods.” Again, since they were showing the impact of sports bans, one would think rates of participation in sports would be absolutely key.

The latest Williams Institute report, published in January 2026, did include some eye-popping updates. Their updated data showed an astounding 382,800 transgender youth ages 13-17 living in 29 states that mandate sex-based sports participation. Even adding in the 20,367 trans-identified kids in Alaska and Virginia (the two additional states not included in the 2025 report) to the 117,400 counted in 2025, brings the number up to 137,767 in 2025. That's still less than half the number of trans-identified kids listed in the most recent report. How could the number of trans-identified youth ages 13-17 living in those 29 states that enacted “anti-trans legislation” more than double, from 137,767 to 382,800? If anything, one might expect the number of kids identifying as trans in states that had “anti-trans” laws to drop. Not more than double.

Turns out it’s a combination of using Biden-era data when talking about Trump-era “sports bans.” Elana Redfield explained that the 2021 and 2023 YRBS data, under the Biden administration, encouraged collection of students’ gender identity and sexual orientation. That resulted in “improved data.” Their estimate of trans-identified youth ages 13-17 nationwide more than doubled from 300,100 to 724,000. That’s a ton more kids affected by “anti-trans legislation.”

Remember all the times you’ve heard activists and activist media say “there are so few” trans-identified athletes? That some states have one, or none? This table in the most recent Williams Institute report says something quite different.

This shows the number of trans-identified kids ages 13-17 in each of the 29 states that mandate sex-based sports participation. It’s a lot. This is when the Williams Institute finds it useful not to know the rate at which trans-identified teens participate in sports. “It could be 20% or 1% or .001%,” Redfield said. Nonetheless, these numbers seem pretty high—71,200 trans-identified teens in Texas, a state that has never been a bastion of liberalism? Even if only 1% participate in sports, that’s 712 trans athletes who, if they’re following Texas law, are participating in their sex category. And not a single story in the news of dire harms from participating in one’s sex category.

Recall when the ACLU claimed in front of the Supreme Court that West Virginia’s law upholding sex-based sports affected only one person—their client, Becky Pepper-Jackson? Well huh. The Williams Institute found that that law affects 3,800 trans-identified kids in West Virginia. Even if only 1% of those kids played sports, that’s still 38 kids. Not just one. Remember Charlie Baker testifying before Congress that there were “less than ten” trans athletes in the NCAA? The Williams Institute stated that it’s “unlikely that transgender athletes make up more than 1.3% of the overall college athlete population.” Using that 1.3% of the NCAA’s total athlete population of 554,000 results in 7,202 trans-identified athletes. Not less than ten.

Which is it? Are there so few trans athletes? Or are there thousands, hundreds of thousands? It seems like there’s another calculus trans advocacy groups are using that is variable. If they’re talking about girls’ right to their own sports and locker rooms, then there are so few “trans” athletes as to be insignificant. They are talking about males of course: They know trans-identified females are not a threat anywhere so there’s no point in counting them, especially in this instance where they need the numbers to be “so few.” If they’re talking about the demands of “trans” athletes to choose the team they’d like to play on—and here, trans-identified females are useful—then it’s a huge number who are being denied this invented “right.”

Fun with statistics. Or is it lying with statistics? I always forget. The Williams Institute does not restrict their statistical magic to sports. They recently published a report on the impact of the Eaton fire in California on the LGBTQ+ community. The California Globe read that impact report closely, as I did with the impact of “sports bans,” and also found some unevidenced claims and unscientific methods (improved data?). The Williams Institute report showed that the LGBTQ+ community was more negatively affected by the fires than non-LGBTQ residents, and that this suffering was due to discrimination, because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. For example, the report noted that larger numbers of LGBTQ people sought legal advice about their rights as tenants, inferring that their rights were disproportionately being abused because of their identity or sexual orientation. In fact, more of the LGBTQ community rent rather than own their homes as compared to non-LGBTQ people. Renters of every stripe were more likely to seek legal advice on their rights as tenants; it was not a bane visited on LGBTQ+ individuals because of their identity. Harms suffered and hassles with insurance companies that happened universally after the fires were attributed to discrimination based on LGBTQ+ identity.

Williams Institute’s methods, too, were unscientific at the very least. They invited members of the LGBTQ+ community to two “listening sessions,” one in May and one in September. Not surprisingly, participants claimed their troubles multiplied when insurers and other service providers found out their sexual orientation or gender identity. Fueling victimhood, leaders of the September listening session read the claims of the May participants out loud. None of this is scientific. It’s not even ethical.

I’ve digressed. My point is, the Williams Institute, The Trevor Project, and other so-called research organizations, are making unevidenced, unscientific, and irresponsible claims. There is every chance that a significant portion of the 382,800 trans-identified 13-17-year-olds living in states that mandate sex-based sports are, in fact, quietly enjoying the benefits of sports like Eliza Munshi did—consistent with their sex. The Williams Institute really really doesn’t want you to know that.

I published the first article about men in the Women’s Hockey Association of Minnesota, It’s a WHAM Shame, on November 5, 2025. WHAM has always defended their betrayal of women by saying they’re just following USA Hockey’s policies that allowed men in women’s hockey at the recreational level. That policy, instituted in 2019, made perfectly clear from the first mendacious words that USA Hockey was all in on including “transgender athletes,” i.e. men. Women were never mentioned:

USA Hockey supports diversity and inclusion in all aspects of hockey. The purpose of this policy is to provide transgender hockey athletes an avenue to participate in recreational and competitive ice hockey in an inclusive sporting environment where people of all backgrounds can contribute and play ice hockey, and to do so in a fair and safe manner. USA Hockey’s goal is to allow all athletes access to ice hockey in a healthy and respectful environment. This policy is based on USA Hockey’s belief that recreational ice hockey should incorporate an inclusive policy that focuses on allowing athletes to participate on a team that is consistent with their gender identity. Application of the policy to competitive ice hockey includes requirements to help maintain a fair and safe environment.

Just ten days after I published that article, USA Hockey very quietly changed that policy to restrict women’s hockey to females “assigned at birth” and further, to females who have not “undergone hormone therapy,” i.e. taken testosterone. This policy takes effect April 1, 2026. First and last, I want to congratulate USA Hockey for restricting women’s hockey to females who are not doping, at all levels.

HOWEVER, because I am a jaded battle axe who’s lived through lots of moments when women appear to be almost human beings, USA Hockey’s woman-recognizing has an ice rink’s chance in March of being permanent. Let’s look at the circumstances and the wording of this policy change. And then further down, we’ll look at the “unique” culture in women’s hockey that has historically supported the erasure of their own sport, violently silenced any woman for voicing the tiniest support for female sports, and, more recently, has lost their collective minds now that women’s hockey is for women.

The Policy Change

It was the best kept secret in sports. No press release. No announcement. In fact, I couldn’t find the new policy on USA Hockey’s website at all. A Google search only turns up the new policy on sports news sites. USA Hockey obviously didn’t want to restrict women’s hockey to females, and once forced to, did everything they could to bury news of that policy shift. You will never find a more forced, less enthusiastic, carefully worded hostage letter in your life:

The USA Hockey Board of Directors adopts this Participant Eligibility Policy following directives from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (“USOPC”) whereby the USOPC requires that each sport’s national governing body (“NGB”) must update and adopt their own policies to follow federal guidance. USA Hockey is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in sport. USA Hockey will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., USOPC, IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act, 36 U.S.C. § 22501, et. Seq. The USOPC has advised that the NGB policy must apply in all aspects of the NGB’s programs.

My goodness, the gun-at-their-head, under-extreme-duress language here is eye-wateringly misogynistic—this decision was made under threat of losing funding and NGB status, had nothing to do with recognizing the rights of women as a separate sex class or preserving the integrity of women’s hockey, and has all the staying power of Trump’s attention span. Compare the stilted, gritted teeth language in this women-centered policy with the florid enthusiasm USA Hockey expressed for its belief, its absolute commitment to “inclusion” of males in their previous policy. My god, the previous was a weepy-eyed manifesto of men’s rights. This new policy is called the “Participant” Eligibility Policy—could not even use the word “woman” in the title. Right off the bat and repeatedly, USA Hockey points out that they’re just following directives, that they “must” and “are required” to recognize women’s sex-based rights and reality, and, much as they would like to continue to screw over women at the recreational level, nope, this outrage—women’s hockey for women only—applies to all levels. They blame the radical idea of women having a fair and safe competition environment on Executive Order 14201, but delicately declined to spell out the name of that order: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports. Puts too fine a point on it. The message between the lines could not be more clear—just as soon as Trump and the 2028 Olympics are in the rearview mirror, this female-only BS is history.

Which brings us to the reaction from women’s hockey over USA Hockey’s assurance of fairness and opportunity from women…

What the Heck is With Women’s Hockey?

I admit I’m in a biological reality bubble, and I accept that Helen Joyce and Ross Tucker are not known entities to the vast majority of Americans, but man, I was not ready for WHAM. The men of WHAM, yes, but not the women of WHAM. Walking into that locker room of mostly middle-aged women in various states of undress, and asking how they felt about the fact that WHAM allowed males in their women’s hockey league—I was stunned when, after a brief uncomfortable silence, not once but twice, in two different locker rooms, one woman spoke loudly and proudly that a trans woman is a woman and she welcomed anyone who identified as a woman to play in WHAM. There was a lot of looking around for confirmation and head nodding, and some deer-in-the-headlights looks that I recognize as fear of wrongthink, but no one else contradicted this bizarrely self-loathing statement. These particular teams of sports-bra-and-undie-clad women did not have a man on their roster, but if they had, he would also have been welcome in that space. And, welcome sister with the mister, that would have been just fine with these middle aged women??!! I was so slow-witted I could not think to ask the obvious follow-up: If WHAM accepts males, why have a women’s league?

First, hockey insiders tell me that the women who loudly support men in women’s hockey are a very vocal, and frankly unhinged, minority. And many have never touched the ice, as in, keyboard activists rather than athletes. WHAM has not come out with an official statement about USA Hockey’s new policy, but they have in the past supported males in the league both on social media and privately, and also tacitly allow women who are using testosterone to play. Seattle Women’s Hockey Club immediately and vehemently stood firmly against any effort to exclude males from their club. There was discussion about dissociating from USA Hockey and forming their own “inclusive” league.

Of course, women’s professional hockey has already tried that. Because this bizarrely self-loathing, anti-woman culture has been around for a long time. In 2015, the National Women’s Hockey League formed in the U.S. and Canada, but in 2021 the name was changed to Premier Hockey Federation. See what’s been removed? The word Women’s. And that was purposeful. To be more “inclusive,” the PHF allowed men who self-ID’d as women with NO testosterone suppression as long as these men had “lived as a woman” for two years. The Federation also welcomed women who were doped on testosterone. The PHF ceased operation in 2023, but was bought by Billie Jean King’s company and started up again under the name Professional Women’s Hockey League. Different names, same strange counterproductive culture: A professional women’s team that violently shuts down even a whisper of support for women’s-only sports.

Example A: Minnesota Frost player and upcoming Olympian Britta Curl-Salemme is “the most hated woman in the PWHL,” according to a recent New York Times article. Her crime? In 2023, she liked a tweet by Canadian Olympic hockey players Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux, and replied:

“Females protecting female players on the female players association board? Thank you (Lamoureux twins).”

For this, Curl-Salemme is still, three years later, groveling in apology for the “harm” that social media post caused the LGBTQ+ community. Even though she is liked and respected by most other players, frothing mad activist fans boo her every time she touches the puck. Because she liked a tweet that celebrated women’s sports. THREE YEARS AGO. These same unhinged critics erupted in anger when she received a two-year contract extension. The New York Times wrote in their biased piece of crap that falsely stated there was no evidence “trans women” had advantage,

“Understanding that harm, Curl-Salemme said, is part of the internal work she’s been doing over the 19 months since coming under fire. She said she has had many conversations with teammates who offered different perspectives, and has become more understanding and empathetic, particularly to the lived experience of trans people and members of the LGBTQ+ community.”

I encourage you to read the paper of note’s long, biased, and factually inaccurate struggle session to get a feel for the demented, spittle-flecked, anti-woman culture of women’s hockey. And know that no other professional athlete would have agreed to such an antagonistic interview—only a female hockey player who spoke up for females. I’m thinking of the many many fawning interviews with men who are objectively cheating, stealing women’s opportunities and awards, committing sexual harassment, while the interviewer nods along, and notes how much bigotry and hate the marginalized man is enduring.

The trans hockey player getting the most media attention is trans-identified female Harrison Browne, who wrote a book called Let Us Play, in which she spends several hundred pages not answering why she quit hockey when she started taking testosterone rather than playing in alignment with her identity, on the men’s team. Trans men are men, right? It might have something to do with the fact that Browne is 5’4”. Continuing on her campaign of self owns, Browne took to Instagram to bemoan USA Hockey’s decision to prevent doped women from playing:

I was upset and wanted to do more research and realized that this policy also bars myself and other transmen from playing on women’s beer league teams if we’ve undergone hormone therapy. It’s no surprise that men’s hockey is not a safe environment for gender non-conforming individuals and the women’s side is often the only place for most queer people to play. Barring trans individuals from these spaces essentially bars us from hockey. Horrible.

Men’s hockey is a violent and unsafe environment so men (those same violent individuals) who claim to be women and doped women should play in the women’s league. Because women’s safety and fairness is not important. The lack of self-awareness is startling.

What the holy heck is with women’s hockey? This culture of misogyny and self-loathing and rabid thought policing among women is…insane.

I have a few theories, not wholly Sarah Science. Hear me out.

Internalized misogyny. Hockey is and has always been a male dominated sport characterized by aggressiveness and violence. Along with MMA, the poster sport of toxic masculinity. Women who take up this male sport feel obliged to adopt male behavior—aggression, willingness to take hits, accepting physical risk. But along with the aggressively male culture of hockey is contempt for women and feminine men—misogyny and homophobia are endemic in men’s hockey. That’s not just Sarah Science, there’s robust evidence. Women’s hockey is not dominant enough to create its own culture, it has just appropriated men’s, misogyny and all. Standing up for women’s rights is for pussies.

Lots of lesbians=automatic support for the whole alphabet. Women’s hockey has always had lots of lesbian players. This is not inconsistent with the fact that men’s hockey is notoriously homophobic—hockey in general rejects the feminine. Women’s hockey has been very accepting of lesbians, queer women, women who identify as men, gender nonconforming women, in part because they aren’t stereotypically feminine. And they’re in a sport that rewards stereotypically masculine behavior. Call it tribalism or blind allegiance to the whole LGBTQ+ group, disparate as those identities are—support for trans identified men by lesbians, despite the erasure of the meaning of being lesbian, is a knee-jerk response by some.

The rabid true believers. Mantra-intoning, unquestioning, TWAW pentecostals. As Kelley Grotting, a WHAM player who suffered the fanaticism of this group when she spoke up for women’s hockey, told me, most of these hardcore spewers have never stepped on the ice. Like all religious zealots, anything short of complete compliance with their creed is apostasy and must be brutally stamped out. These are the lovely folkx filling comment sections with rape threats, or long lists of not-quite-third-grade-level names.

Hormone treatment, or something=not really male. When I talked at greater length to WHAM players, many women parrot what they’ve read in mainstream media—that hormone therapy eliminates male advantage, or even puts men who’ve suppressed their testosterone at a disadvantage compared to women. Or maybe a man who claimed to be a woman was not really male. Maybe there was something to the born -in-the-wrong-body idea. These women probably did not believe me when I said that the theory of testosterone reduction had been utterly debunked (because: New York Times vs me), and were unaware that WHAM had no hormone requirement. So, a mixture of not knowing too much about gender identity, not wanting to know too much about gender identity, and general ignorance of the fact that their rights as women have been quietly removed. Not thinking about it too hard, these women could accept that the men playing in women’s hockey were somehow not really men. Whatever, they just wanted to play hockey.

Be Kind. Even badass women that play hockey are not immune to the potent idea that if they don’t let poor distressed marginalized men play in the women’s league, they’re genociding them. Or not wanting them to exist. And thus, are bad, hateful people. Women, especially women who are playing rec league hockey, have years of experience putting others’ feelings and needs before their own. Many are moms, grandmothers. Enough said. And they’re realists—of course this is no big deal. It’s rec league hockey.

USA Hockey is doing the right thing for the wrong reason which they will almost certainly undo at the first opportunity, and a bunch of women are screaming bloody murder that men are, for the time being, kept out of their sport. Hockey, of all sports, where the physical risk and advantage of a bigger, stronger, faster male body are so blindingly obvious—it defies reason that even a few women would support the inclusion of males, to say nothing of representing the dominant culture of the sport.

I can’t explain it. I don’t understand it, and I realize it’s not a monolith. I’m just holding women’s hockey up—from USA Hockey to PWHL to WHAM to fans—as a bizarre artifact of our world.

I thought nothing could be more disheartening than a Supreme Court Justice using invented transpeak to deny the existence of women, and expressing consternation that “we are now looking at the definition of a girl, and we're saying only people who were girl-assigned-at-birth qualify." (Bang forehead on wall. Repeat)

Then I discovered the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport’s Nike-funded Coaching HER indoctrination campaign is expanding. Not content to try to convince existing coaches that everything they know about sex differences in sport is outdated and bigoted and causing girls to drop out of sports, the Tucker Center is taking a page from the Pritzker/Rothblatt/Arcus playbook—targeting university professors with free curriculum aimed at indoctrinating the next generation of coaches.

This is the press release: “The Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport at the University of Minnesota is proud to announce the launch of the Coaching HER® Educational Champions Program, a new initiative designed to support professors, instructors, coaching directors and institutions in integrating Coaching HER® education into academic coursework…. challenging conventional norms and rethinking what it means to coach and lead girls and women in sport. Coaching HER® provides transformative educational resources that prepare future coaches, educators, and leaders to lead with awareness, intention, and inclusivity. The Coaching HER® Educational Champions Program represents a powerful opportunity for institutions to equip the next generation of inclusive, equity-minded leaders—advancing educational excellence while fostering healthier, more equitable sport environments for girls and women.”

Coaching HER Educational Champions, like Stonewall Diversity Champions, is a fake honor bestowed on those who drink the kool-aid.

As my earlier investigation and analysis of Coaching HER (or Coaching HIM, as certain other coaches I know prefer to call it), a lot of the information is valid and makes perfect sense WHEN APPLIED TO GIRLS, actual females. But when the Tucker Center starts with a definition of girl that includes boys, everything that flows from that is also a lie. Eg., an “inclusive environment for all girls” including boys will exclude girls. Girl-centered becomes male-centered, appearance diversity means accepting “girls” with penises, and I can't even start on the module on menstrual health (people who menstruate).

This “curriculum” is offered for free, which is exactly how the Gender Unicorn and the idea that some people are not the sex their body advertises came to be in K-12 classrooms. In fact, the cartoon Gender Unicorn underpins Coaching Her’s “research- and evidence-based” training modules. The “free” part is just another lie the Tucker Center is telling: The cost of this ideological indoctrination is born by girls, and it’s steep. Coaching HER requires that girls give up their place as one of two distinct sex classes of human.

Again, reading through the Coaching HER courses with a fact-based understanding of the word girl is a completely sensible experience, so common sense that virtually any current coach is already implementing these practices, and any future coach with two firing synapses does not need training to understand that girls come in different shapes and sizes, and that wrestling is not just for boys. Every point made in every assignment, every module is so blindingly obvious WHEN APPLIED TO FEMALES, one has to question why the Tucker Center spent more than a million clams to “educate” future coaches about the benefits of sports for girls (!), and enlighten them that many girls have body image concerns (!!). The answer is that it takes a crap-ton of money and carefully coded words to hide the fact that this about including boys in girls sports, but at the same time, making it seem like it’s about girls. That’s hard. It’s very complex. The mendaciousness that’s required to endlessly refer to a male as a girl without saying so, and to paint the obvious erasure of girls from their own sport as somehow beneficial to them, well, that brand of gaslighting is best left to highly paid activists. Actual researchers, scientists, would certainly muck this up with their facts.

Let’s read through some of this “curriculum” with our reality glasses on to see what the Tucker Center is actually selling.

The definition of girl on which they’re basing this entire initiative is buried in the terms section of the Body Confidence Course:

“When we use the term “Girls”, we refer to someone under the age of 18 who was assigned female at birth, or who identifies as a girl.”

This twisting of one of the foundational truths of our world—that a male can identify into girlhood—a truth on which girls’ and women’s sports, and all girls’ and women’s rights, is based guarantees the entire initiative is actually harmful to girls. If you can’t define girl, you can’t benefit or empower girls. This definition started out on Coaching HER’s front page, but they thought better of being so transparent, and it’s now in the FAQ’s just below What to do if I forget my password, and in the new curriculum, buried in the Body Confidence terms.

Sex is defined under the Challenging Gender Stereotypes module as:

Used to label a person as ‘female’ or ‘male’ at birth. This term refers to a person’s external genitalia and internal reproductive organs. When a person is assigned a particular sex at birth, it is often mistakenly assumed that this will equate with their gender; it might, but it might not.

This is the only time the word sex, or female, appears anywhere in the training. Gender and girl (remember, a girl is anyone who says he’s a girl) are used throughout. Though it claims to be evidence-based and tested, Coaching HER is built on the utterly evidence-free idea that self-declared identity should be prioritized over the reality of sex. Using terms like sex stereotypes and female-centric describe biological reality and differentiate between male and female, so of course, the authors didn’t employ that kind of accurate, scientific language. Use of “gender” allows them to say girls but include boys. Of course, the Tucker Center is not advocating for the elimination of girls’ sports—that would make them look misogynistic, and besides, they’d lose that Nike funding. Girls sports must be preserved as a place for boys to identify into and to be affirmed and celebrated. So the ideological wonderword gender is used throughout. It allows a lot of lying that sex simply would not.

They spend lots of words justifying the need for their training initiative:

…designed to address the harmful gender biases and stereotypes that often go unchallenged in sport settings. Coaches are powerful role models who can impact girls’ self-perceptions, experiences, and development. Yet coaches often lack the education and training needed to address concerns specific to girls and women, including gender identities, stereotypes and bias.

Coaches, both current and future, are pretty well versed in the concerns of female athletes, including, notably, their desire for single-sex sports and locker rooms. That’s one of those “harmful gender biases” Coaching HER seeks to purge. Other dangerous, outdated ideas include the “stereotype” that males are bigger, stronger, and faster than females (not a stereotype—voluminously proven), and the ignorant, biased idea that a be-penised person does not belong in girls’ sports or locker rooms.

FACT: Coaches trained in girl-centered practices strengthen girls’ confidence, well-being, and sense of belonging, all critical for keeping them in sport.

Reading the above Coaching HER fact though our reality glasses, it makes perfect sense. Yes, of course, female-centered practices strengthen girls’ confidence. But read it using Coaching HER’s definition of girl which includes boys. How can any practice be girl-centered if it denies their existence? If the word girl has no meaning? How can it build females’ confidence, well-being and sense of belonging if Coaching HER claims they don’t even qualify as a distinct category of human? Including boys in the definition of girls turns a fact into a lie.

Inclusive is the most used word in the Coaching HER Educational Champions curriculum—our inclusive education teaches inclusion so that graduates of our inclusive training will be highly sought after coaches with expertise in inclusive coaching practices. Got it? It’s about inclusion, stupid. Of ALL girls. HOWEVER, as much as they use the word inclusion, the photos that accompany the curriculum and the website show females—black, brown, small, large, wearing hijabs, all clearly female. But no Lia Thomases. No Sadie Schreiners. Hmmm, why not show ALL girls? In a training module, Coaching HER director Alicia Pelton related a personal story about inclusion—listening to and including girls from poor economic backgrounds, girls of color, girls from cultures that had different expectations for daughters than sons when it came to sports. The girls she sought to include faced barriers that many females face, because of their sex. Yes, of course, economically and culturally challenged girls should be included in girls’ sports because they’re female. BUT Pelton very pointedly did not use male runner Veronica Garcia as an example of inclusion, though Garcia illustrates exactly what Coaching HER preaches—including, accepting, and celebrating anyone who identifies as a girl. Why didn’t she tell an emotional story about including a “transgirl?”

Pelton et al know boys are not girls. If the Tucker Center honestly thought including boys in girls sports was the right thing to do, they’d show photos of boys who identify as girls, and relate anecdotes of boys who identify as girls. Instead they girl wash their male-centric initiative.

Bearing in mind that a girl is anyone who says he’s a girl puts a whole new spin on Coaching HER’s definition of Appearance Diversity and its antecedent, Body Talk Free Zone:

Appearance Diversity: Everybody is different and no two people are the same. Recognizing and respecting appearance diversity includes accepting all appearances and celebrating differences.

and

Body Talk Free Zone: A commitment between teammates and teams to create a space where people avoid engaging in body talk and/or challenge this behavior when it occurs.

Buried deep in the Tucker Center’s 242-page report on girls in sport, the chapter on LGBTQ “individuals” acknowledged the dirty word, once—a person may feel like a girl even though they were born with a body that may appear male. In an earlier iteration of Coaching HER, coaches were admonished to “accept all bodies and celebrate differences” but they realized in hindsight, that “bodies” focused attention on physical bodies—oh lordy, don’t do that. “Appearance” is nice and not penis-inferring at all.

Reading this with our sex-based glasses on, this is about respecting short girls, big girls, brown girls, unathletic girls, girls with para abilities. Duh. I’m going to give undergraduates the benefit of the doubt and say they do not need training to accept and celebrate (tbh, I don’t think anyone needs to be celebrated for their appearance) girls of all colors, shapes and sizes. BUT they might stumble over BOY appearances. In fact, some ignorant future coaches might need to be re-educated (see also: struggle session) to accept boy appearances. Urging trainee coaches to celebrate a be-penised individual on a girls’ team is Coaching HER’s extra Mao mile.

The Body Talk Free Zone, again, makes sense WHEN APPLIED TO A FEMALE TEAM, but is weaponized against them when a team includes a boy. How can a girl describe why changing in front of a boy makes her uncomfortable? Is she just a bigot for not accepting his different appearance? A girl who speaks truthfully—that person with the penis is a boy—should be shamed, challenged, shut down. The Body Talk Free Zone removes a girl’s ability to accurately describe reality.

The Menstrual Health Course is where Coaching HER’s word manipulation peaks because, of course, menstruation is a biological reality that only females experience. Feminine identities do not menstruate. The Tucker Center knows they have to talk about menstruation to keep up the facade that this is actually about girls, but—awkward—doing so is going to expose the SEX differences between a girl and a boy who identifies as a girl that they’ve been working so hard to cover up. Talking about menstruation is the one sure way to confirm that a boy who identifies as a girl is not a girl. And their carefully constructed gender inclusive world would collapse. This course was a minefield for the authors which they navigated in typical activist fashion by erasing the word girl completely, and replacing it with the unsexed athlete or person. The menstrual cycle is defined as:

The monthly hormonal cycle for people who experience menstruation as a part of their reproductive health

Throughout this course, females are bizarrely disconnected from every female-only experience and replaced with the robotic, inane people: RED-S is “when people do not have sufficient energy,” amenorrhea is “when a person stops getting their period,” yet they accurately describe menstruation as “when the uterine lining (endometrium) and unfertilized egg are shed from the uterus, through the cervix and out of the body through the vagina. People with uteri, eggs, cervixes and vaginas—the evidence they’ve presented here is that they’ve lost their minds, and are tyng themselves in knots to deny that females, girls, are a unique sex class of humans. Nowhere in this entire cesspit have the authors made more clear their science-denying, anti-reality, woman-erasing goals. But if there’s any truth gender ideology reveals, it’s that ever greater absurdities are required to support it.

Unable to write a sentence without the word inclusion in it, Module 2 of the Menstrual Health Course instructs learners to create a Menstrual Health Inclusion Plan. This involves talking openly about periods, ensuring access to a variety of period products, uniform options, being aware of differing cultural needs, and providing a comfortable environment in the locker room, during practice, competition, and traveling. Once again, all of these ideas make perfect sense in the context of a female-only team, to the point that one can hardly imagine anyone requiring a training module to make sure girls have access to tampons, cups, pads, etc. The gaping hole in Coaching HER’s Menstrual Health Inclusion Plan is how, exactly, a coach ensures a comfortable, private period-friendly environment for girls who might be experiencing their first period when there is a male in the locker room. All those words, all those modules, beating learners over the head with inclusion, and yet, on this very real and common need of females, Coaching HER is silent. Not a word.

Their giant lie is exposed. Boys who identify as girls are not girls. Girls are not an identity. Girls are a distinct sex class, deserving of single-sex sports and spaces. The Coaching HER Educational Champions initiative is an attempt to indoctrinate the next generation of coaches into gender ideology, to normalize the inclusion of boys in girls’ sports. The goals of Coaching HER’s curriculum are objectively harmful to girls and girls’ sports. That the Tucker Center continues to tout this indoctrination program as beneficial to girls is, like its dehumanizing definition of girl, unspeakably offensive and harmful.

On Saturday, Dec 20, the WHAM (Women’s Hockey Association of Minnesota) C1 team Crew played the Sabres, a team that has two males on the roster. During the game, one of the men, #19, aggressively dominated the play. Women on Crew who normally played forward refused to play against him in fear for their physical safety. They let him have the puck because he is 6’ tall and aggressive. He checked. Women were hurt. It was exactly the sort of dangerously farcical scene you’d expect from a man playing in a women’s league. But the man’s aggressive, violent behavior continued off the ice.

K. is a first-year member of Crew, just 21 years old and about 5’ tall. She didn’t want to rock the boat, being a new player, but was frustrated by having to play against a man when she had signed up for a women’s league. To be clear, K. would not have been frustrated by a talented or aggressive female player. This was obviously a man. She was sick to the back teeth of pretending that a man can simply identify as a woman; it’s unfair and unsafe, as the previous 45 minutes had demonstrated. As they were skating off the ice, #19, a male, skated past and she said, “You do realize this is a women’s league, right?”

The man responded belligerently, “Oh I’m aware. Do you want to go in the parking lot?”

Shocked, K. said, “No, you might hurt me. You’re a guy.”

This exchange was witnessed by members of Crew and Sabres. Back in the locker room, K. was shaken and told the rest of her team what had happened. She was afraid to leave the rink so she called her boyfriend from inside the locker room to meet her in the parking lot for protection.

Shortly after they’d entered the locker room, the manager of the Sabres asked to talk with the manager of the Crew. She said the Sabres were filing a complaint against K. for misgendering the male player, and were asking for her and all Crew members to be suspended. K.’s teammates escorted her out of the rink and the male player was indeed waiting in the parking lot but did not make good on his threat because K. was not alone.

First, betrayed by WHAM by having to play against a man, violently threatened by that man for speaking objective truths, and then somehow the man playing in the women’s league who threatened to go out in the parking lot and beat the crap out of her is suddenly the victim and she is the aggressor?! Her crime? Reminding a man that he is playing in a women’s league.

K. was so shaken by the experience she skipped several games. She thought her team would be punished for her words, uncontroversial facts. WHAM is telling her she is the one who has violated rules. She wrote an email to WHAM president, Beth Chaplin, apologizing for speaking to the male player rather than going to WHAM with her concerns, though it’s well known WHAM does not support women. Many have gone to WHAM saying they don’t think it’s fair or safe to play with men, and WHAM supports the male players, pointing to USA Hockey’s policy of allowing males in women’s hockey at the rec level. WHAM has not even respected K. or the Crew enough to respond to them, though several players emailed about the incident. WHAM hopes to keep this gross violation, which they know to be worthy of severe discipline, under wraps by threatening the women with suspension. It has worked.

K. has not, to this point, filed a complaint against the man because she thinks she is in the wrong for calling a man a man. Think about that. More than #19’s unacceptable violent threat toward another player, the most egregious violation against K. and all the women in WHAM is that he is allowed to share the ice and the locker room, nullifying the women’s league. Yes, #19 should absolutely face harsh discipline for his violent behavior, but USA Hockey needs to acknowledge the even greater harm they have visited on women at every level of the sport by redefining “women’s” to include men. USA Hockey has, with the stroke of a pen, misrepresented women’s sports as a female-only category, forced women to accept people they know to be men into their locker rooms and their sport, made women’s hockey unfair and unsafe, and made it impossible for women to even talk about this gross human rights violation. USA Hockey’s policy has put women in the impossible position of not being able to call a man a man. Therefore, they have no rights whatsoever. All of women’s rights are based on the reality of sex. This incident is not just an unacceptable display of violence by one player toward another, it’s a glaring demonstration of the grievous harm USA Hockey’s policy visits on women and women’s hockey.

I am filing a complaint against Sabres player #19 for violently threatening another player; and against WHAM’s board of directors for their failure to provide a fair, safe, and dignified environment for women and for misrepresenting WHAM as a women’s league. I am also filing a complaint against USA Hockey for their current policy that has effectively eliminated women’s hockey. I ask that USA Hockey change their dangerous, discriminatory policy of allowing men in women’s hockey to align with other sports governing bodies that respect and protect the female category. Even though #19 threatened to take K. out in the parking lot and beat the crap out of her, all women are harmed by men, violent or not, in the women’s league. It has to stop.

My neighbor has been playing on WHAM for 20 years but doubts she will play next year because of men in the league. It’s not fun any more—it’s dangerous. And it hurts that WHAM cares so little for women, as insane as that is. I went to Crew games, talked at length to many WHAM players, and wrote an article about it for The Female Category.

I understand that filing this complaint as a third party has less validity, but as I have described above, most women who have been abused by men are made to think they are the aggressors, that they have done something wrong for speaking obvious truths, that they are bigots for doing so. The cold hard realization that, in fact, they have no rights, that those rights have been stripped away, is the final nail in the coffin. They stay silent. I’m trying to convince K. to file a complaint but she is afraid she and her team will be punished. She is afraid of retaliation from the male player, #19, if she has to face the Sabres again. Like many many other women in her situation, she knows she has no choice but to suck it up, keep quiet, and carry on. Or quit.

I’d like a response from USA Hockey explaining how you plan to address this incident, and the obvious harms to women your policy invites by allowing men to self-ID onto women’s teams. Thanks for your attention to many abuses of women listed here.

This is who Frances Staudt is: “I’ve been raised to be tough and fight. My parents have instilled in me to fight for what you believe in, and if you get knocked down, to get back up. I’m not afraid to speak out if I know what I’m saying is the truth. I’m 100 percent not afraid of potential consequences because I’m stronger than that and I don’t give up. I’m not going to allow them to silence me. I’m going to speak up for what I believe in. I’ll say again a hundred times—there are only two genders. I’ve been friends to kids who have turned their backs on me. I’m not a hateful person, I’m not disrespectful. When this comes to an end, I’d rather know I stood up for myself, and maybe others will see they can too. If you speak up, only good things will happen, even if, in the moment, it seems bad.”

By the way, Frances is 16 years old, a sophomore at Tumwater High School in Washington. Like most girls in Washington, Frances encountered a boy, both in her locker room and playing on a girls’ basketball team. Unlike most girls, she was not okay with it, nor willing to pretend that she was. See above.

Since February 6, 2025, the athletic, A-earning, firmly family, Christian grounded Tumwater student has become an outspoken firebrand who’s grabbed craven school officials by the lanyards and introduced them to a brand of teenage girl plainspeaking that like to goose their bobbing adam’s apples. Hiding behind ideologically driven policy that strips girls of any rights, weak-kneed chair warmers are discovering they’ve chosen the wrong girl to make an example of.

She radiates righteous energy, speaking at Let’s Go Washington events and with podcaster Brandi Kruse about what actually happens when a girl simply refuses to play against a boy, when she speaks up for her rights. Frances’s trial by fire demonstrates in vivid detail what “just refusing to play” actually demands of a girl who cannot yet vote, and it is not for the faint of heart. Frances and her mom, Aimee, related how school administrators and their obeisance to an anti-reality, anti-woman policy has unwittingly created the next icon for women’s rights.

The Female Category: So, at the February 6 game, you first noticed a boy on the opposing team during the warmup?

Frances: Yeah, he was obviously a man. I saw my mom talking with the coach and the Athletic Director. We had talked about it as a family and I made the decision I would not play. I was respectful. I was not making a scene; I just sat on the bench and did not play.

Aimee: A little background—the year before, when Frances was a freshman and playing on Tumwater’s freshman basketball team, this boy was on Shelton’s JV girls team. After her game, Frances went into the locker room and this boy was in there doing his hair and makeup. She came out in tears and said there is a guy in our locker room. I couldn’t believe it but we didn’t say anything. We thought it was terrible but we didn’t make an issue of it. Looking back, maybe we should have. She was 14 and he was 17. Now he’s 18, a man.

TFC: Did you tell your coach you wouldn’t play against a boy?

Frances: My coach saw me sitting on the bench and asked if I was ok. I told her there’s a boy on the other team, and I’m not going to play against a boy. I was very respectful, not raising my voice. She understood. I think she was frustrated with the situation.

TFC: Did any of your teammates notice there was a boy on the other team? Were they talking about it?

Frances: Some of them saw me sitting out and came up to ask if I was ok. I told them why I wasn’t playing. They all played.

Aimee: There were a lot of district officials at that game. I asked the principal, Zach Suderman, and the Athletic Director, Jordan Magrath, if they could confirm that the player on Shelton’s team was a boy. They said they could not because that would be gender discrimination. I asked because this was the day after the executive orders had been signed. They said Tumwater didn’t have to follow the executive orders because they followed Washington state and WIAA policy that allows boys to participate in girls’ sports. It’s important for you to know that Tumwater School District knew that this boy was coming to this game. They all met prior to the February 6th game to discuss the situation. But they didn’t invite the girls. If they had had a meeting and told the girls and the parents, there’s a boy on the opposing team and you have the right to decide to play or not, and we will support you if you sit out, we just wouldn’t have gone to that game. But they didn’t do that. They kept it a secret and put these girls on the spot, to have to make this decision in front of everyone. They chose not to respect the girls and tell them in private, but rather ambushed them. They set her up.

TFC: So you’re just sitting on the bench by yourself?

Frances: Later after a girl on our team was hurt by the boy, another girl sat out, but the other girls played. They were telling me it wasn’t a big deal, and that I should just deal with it. At half time, my team was giving me a hard time. I just think no girl should have to play against a man. I was not expecting that reaction [from them]. It’s sad.

Aimee:: My son and husband were at the game too. I wasn’t happy but I was going to handle it privately during the game, not make an issue, and maybe follow up with a letter. I was so flabbergasted by their absolute disregard for the girls, I wanted proof that this actually happened, so I gave my 13-year-old son my camera and he went down near the floor to get video. A Tumwater employee stood in front of him and said, “You better think twice about what you’re doing right now.” My son moved and this employee kept moving in front of him and threatening him. That’s when I lost my mind. I laid into the principal and the AD. About this time, the guy had hurt a Tumwater player so badly her mom had to get her off the court.

Frances: I was so upset when my teammate got hurt. I begged the principal, “Please, that is a man. This is so wrong. Please do something”. He said he wasn’t going to because that would be discrimination against the man. I was crying and very upset, thinking this isn’t right. I was told to go elsewhere if I was going to cry. They didn’t want anyone to see that I was upset by what was going on, that I wasn’t going along with it like everyone else. We decided to leave, but we had to walk in front of the stands. It was truly embarrassing—people from my school and the other school were laughing at me, I could hear them talking about me, making fun of me. As we walked by the other team’s bench, I walked by him [the boy] and said, “You’re a man,” and kept walking. Shelton’s assistant principal heard me call him a man and filed a complaint against me for misgendering him.

TFC: How did you find out the school was investigating you for bullying, harassment, and misgendering?

Aimee: That night Frances was so upset, beyond humiliated. She has a private Instagram account; she said she wanted to make a public post calling out what had happened. We agreed to switch her account to public. The next day the principal called me and told us to take down her post. Either that same day or a couple days later we got a letter from the Tumwater School District saying they had opened an investigation on Frances for harassment and bullying, and they wanted to call her in and question her. I said, over my dead body would she answer questions without representation. They did an investigation without Frances appearing and said she had violated WIAA rules. They threatened if she ever did anything wrong again, there would be “progressive consequences.” They threatened this straight A, 15-year-old student who has two-and-a-half more years in that school that she’d better not step out of line. Can you imagine saying that to a child, having that hang over your head for the rest of your time in that school? Her own guidance counselor, Anna Bush, wrote a public letter coming against what Frances did. It was signed by other counselors. The teacher’s union came out with a Facebook post, as well as one of the school coaches. They all came out against her, and all she did was say I’m not going to play against a boy. She was called a bigot, transphobe. It was awful what she had to go through.

This all could have been prevented but they didn’t really want to give anyone the chance to opt out quietly. Instead they humiliated Frances. Threats you wouldn’t believe that people were saying should happen to my daughter. From parents, kids, the teachers’ union. She has to walk the halls, where kids are yelling out transphobe. This abuse was encouraged by adults who were attacking her as well. The only people they were protecting were trans kids.

We filed a complaint with the federal Office of Civil Rights through FAIR against WIAA and Tumwater School District. The Department of Education has opened an investigation but we have not heard a ruling yet.

TFC: What would you hope to come out of that?

Aimee: That they follow federal law. We don’t want school funding to be pulled. We don’t want to punish kids who just want to play sports. I mean, all of our kids are in sports too, but if we don’t take a stand for not following federal law, it will continue. Something has to be done. This is not a political issue; it’s just common sense. I’ve never considered myself a feminist but I think, where are the women standing up for these girls?

TFC: I’m seeing a shift in public opinion, public knowledge about men in women’s sports, and that has not come from mainstream media. Where do you think people are learning about boys in girls sports, that it’s really happening? To what do you attribute this shift in public opinion?

Frances: [Superintendent] Chris Reykdal says this isn’t happening, that it’s a non-issue. He’s basically calling me a liar. This makes me so mad. It happened to me and it happened to other girls, and they’re saying just deal with it, and they cover it up with lies.

Aimee: My biggest worry is that there’s going to be an attack in a locker room because any man can come in. There is no control, and that scares me.

Frances: Right now there’s a boy at Tumwater using our locker room and bathrooms. Girls complained and not only are they [administrators] not going to do something, they told the girls, if you have an issue with it you can go to a different bathroom but we can’t guarantee the guy won’t be there too. They will look kids in the eye and say we care for you all, we love all students. What about girls who are upset and too afraid to say something? They only like kids who go along with it and don’t say anything. They tell girls, we don’t care about your feelings. You don’t matter. It’s disgusting. It’s mental abuse, and it makes girls feel bad about themselves for asking for privacy.

Girls tell me they agree with me but they’re scared to speak up. They see what happened to me. I had so many people throwing hate at me. People are scared to speak up because administrators won’t do anything and will come out against them.

Aimee: The principal has written to these people who attacked Frances thanking them for their advocacy, for humiliating Frances. It’s criminal what they’ve done to her. I don’t care what they’ve done—no kid should be outed and criticized like this.

Frances: Nobody was there to say I’m proud of you or good job for standing up for what you believe. Instead teachers were coming out against that. It’s fine if you have an opinion, unless it goes against what they think. Other kids are pro this and that, but you speak up for what you think and suddenly you’re a transphobe and a liar.

TFC: I saw an interview with another Washington girl who said boys are just coming in to the girls’ locker room and hanging out. They’re not athletes and they don’t identify as girls. They’re apparently just doing it because they can.

Frances: I’m not surprised. Any guy can walk in. It may not have even crossed his mind, but he can march right in. No one’s going to do anything about it; there are no consequences.

TFC: Despite the fact that gender ideology is taught as fact in schools, it seems kids are rejecting this. What’s your feeling on this?

Aimee: There’s a small percent in Tumwater who align with Frances, a small group of her friends, but most of them are afraid to say anything. Most kids have been indoctrinated since kindergarten. They think this is normal.

Frances: In my freshman health class they talked about being born in the wrong body, and that it was disrespectful to use a deadname. I thought deadname meant you shouldn’t talk about people who were dead. Kids way younger are being taught the same thing. Why not math and reading and science?

Aimee: The idea of free debate and being civil has gone away. It’s ruining something foundational in our society. You can’t just disagree—you’re a bad person if you don’t agree.

TFC: Naming names, calling out state and school officials. going on the offense rather than being, somewhat apologetic—what did you know of women’s rights activists that have come before? What inspires your strong stance?

Frances: I knew of Riley Gaines. I’ve been raised to be tough and fight. My parents have instilled in me to fight for what you believe in. If you get knocked down, get back up. I’m not afraid, if I know what I’m saying is the truth. I’ve been called out by name— why should I not call them by name? I’m not afraid of what they could do. I’m 100% not afraid of potential consequences because I’m stronger than that and I don’t give up. I’m not going to allow them to silence me. I’ll say again a hundred times, I’m not afraid of what their progressive consequences can be—there are only two genders.

It’s easy to laugh until you’re the one being laughed at. When I was 15 and alone, it was hard for me to say certain things, but I know what I’m saying is right. It gives me courage. It would be amazing to have support, but I will be the only person, if that’s what it takes. If I can say something at 15 or 16, then maybe someone else can too. When it comes to an end, I’d rather know I stood up for myself. If you speak up, only good things will happen even if, in the moment, it seems bad. It amazes me how there are people who know it’s wrong and they’re having such an easy time of it now, going along and purposely spreading lies. This is a free country; you shouldn’t have to feel ashamed of saying what you believe. I have a strong belief in Jesus and God. I lean on that and my family when all else fails,

TFC: School officials have doubled down, attacking girls’ right to even talk about the violation. And it seems like activists have become more violent too, based on police presence at the Let’s Go Washington signing. Have you received threats or have police notified you of security issues?

Aimee: Yes, back in February we had to call the sheriff. The boys’ father threatened to show up at our house and threatened my husband’s job. For several interviews, Frances has had to have private security. Why can’t we have a conversation? I don’t believe in trans but I have no issue with trans people. They’re being lied to. It’s not about trans people—it’s about the lie that’s being told and the threats for not agreeing.

Frances: The same people who have left me these horrible messages have those Love is Love signs in their yard. They talk about peace and kindness and say they love everyone until you have a differing opinion. There are those signs that say, This is a safe space in classrooms, but I’ve never once felt like this is a safe space for me to talk about my beliefs.

Aimee: This is so much bigger as a society as far as what we’ve allowed to happen in our schools. I think they’re [trans advocates] panicking. I think the silent majority is awakening. I think it’s so important to have hope. I don’t want to push my religion on you, but every night we get together as a family and pray. As dark as it is, we have hope.

I live in a state where it is illegal to have female-only sports or spaces, and that is across the board—high school sports, the YWCA locker room, AA support groups, prisons, hospital wards, Catholic girls’ schools. If a man or boy says the magic words, he cannot be kept out.

The one exception I found is a women’s-only swim night at the local city rec center. Every other “women’s” class or clinic offered specifies in the fine print, or if you call and ask, that they are open to anyone who identifies as a girl or woman. But women’s-only swim night has no such fine print, and makes clear that the windows to the pool will be covered so males cannot even see in, the swimmers will be female, the lifeguards will be female—the only males in the locker room or pool area are children, age 7 or younger, accompanied by their mother or female guardian. The poster advertising women’s swim night, at the fantastically unpopular time slot of Monday from 7:30 to 9pm, shows women swimming in hijabs and long dresses, arms and legs covered. Although it’s technically open to all women, clearly women’s swim night was designed for Muslim women. As if only a religious dictate (and let’s remember, all major religions are male-centric—hatched, litigated, and presided over by men) could warrant women having their own space. Certainly not that women had any sovereignty or had rights as one of the two sex classes of human. Just a woman with no religious identity? Not enough.

The misogynistic asymmetry that’s at the basis of gender ideology is that males can simply assert their feminine identity and “deserve” women’s rights and spaces, but women cannot simply assert that they are deserving of male-free zones. Basing one’s right to single-sex sports and spaces on religious belief reifies this inequality—it assumes that being female is not enough, that you need a bit more legitimacy. Like from God (usually a male figure). But beyond that, this argument pits one religion against another—Christianity versus gender ideology, Islam versus gender ideology. Who’s to say which is more legitimate? It’s a deflection, and women’s voices and agency get lost in the debate.

I don’t even like to base the argument for women’s sports on fairness. If I recall, it arose early on when women’s rights advocates were still trying to be kind, and not say straight out that trans women were men. We don’t want to get into telling people what sex they are. Addressing the lie directly seemed…unkind, so scientists and advocates talked about fairness. However, this opened the door to trying to prove male advantage, something that was and is utterly uncontroversial, like gravity, but surprisingly difficult to prove. It also ushered in a dark age of pseudoscientific tinkering with testosterone and other easily malleable sex characteristics in an attempt to make it “fair” for males to compete in female sports. What if males lowered their testosterone? To 5nmol/liter? To 2.5nmol/liter? What if they chemically castrated themselves before puberty? This doomed search for fairness was an anti-sport, anti-science, anti-woman detour that some sports organizations are still, nearly two decades later, in thrall of. And searching for fairness misses the point. Even if some sort of physical parity could be achieved, that jerry rigged experiment of a person is still male.

Focusing on fairness, again, deflects from the actual issue—boys and men are male, thus ineligible for women’s sports. Fairness is downstream from the actual issue, which is that men are not women, will never be women. There’s no need to get into the weeds about nmol/liter or sucky male athletes versus fit female athletes. Women deserve male-free sports and locker rooms and other spaces because they have rights as the other sex class of humans, one of two. Women don’t need another reason for their own sports category; being female is enough. In the same way that No is a complete sentence, women’s sports are for females because they are female.

The ugly heart of gender ideology is the denial of women as one of two sex classes. Predicating women’s sports on religious beliefs or fairness reifies the dehumanizing notion that being female is not enough. No. Being female is enough.

Update: Just since I posted this story this morning, Let’s Go Washington has received notification from the FBI that Antifa has threatened violence at a signing event this weekend in Tumwater. To be clear, these are volunteers standing at a table allowing passersby to sign a petition or read about ballot initiatives to strengthen communication between parents and schools, and to ensure girls’ sports are for girls. Ask yourself why girls asking for their Title IX rights elicits this kind of violent response. And there’s no both sides—the violence is all coming from one side.

Washington high school track star, Annaleigh Wilson, didn’t realize she’d placed second in a Junior Olympics 1600-meter race to a male until the medalists stepped to the podium. Other girls had been whispering that the winner was a boy, but it was quite a shock, unreal, when she saw it was true, and that she’d been betrayed by adults who were supposed to ensure fairness.

High schooler Francis Staudt refused to play against a girls’ basketball team that had a player who was “obviously male.” The school district investigated Francis for “misgendering, harassing, and bullying” the male player.

Sadie Sullivan, a competitive swimmer, was undressing in the girls’ locker room when she heard a male voice. Frantically, she tried to wriggle into her racing swimsuit before this boy came around the corner and saw her. She complained but word from the school was that if she was not okay undressing in front of a boy, she, and all the girls, could use the faculty bathroom while one boy had full access to the girls’ locker room. “Girls should never be told their feelings don’t matter,” Sullivan said. “Girls should never be pressured by adults to undress around boys. And girls should never have to sacrifice their safety for somebody else’s comfort.”

News coming out of Washington state is often disheartening—a boy winning a girls’ state track title for the second year in a row, boys taking girls’ awards and opportunities, and invading their locker rooms, enabled by school boards and state laws. It’s wildly unpopular with the public, but their views have somehow not translated to legislative action, to real change.

That’s where Let’s Go Washington comes in. Often described by local media as a conservative political action committee (in the same way that sex realist ideas are described as anti-trans), campaign manager Darren Littell says, “I think we are more common sense than conservative.”

The strength, and success, of LGW is its broad coalition of support, Littell said. “The outpouring of support on this issue is unlike anything we’ve dealt with. We’ve got a coalition of gays and lesbians, the Catholic church, Democrats and independents, people from across the political spectrum.” The LGW website says 57% of the people who sign their petition are Democrats or independents.

Signatures are the currency of the ballot initiative realm: LGW needs about 309,000 of them to present their initiatives to the legislature—one that strengthens communication between school and parents, and one to ensure girls’ sports is for females, as enshrined in Title IX. The legislature may pass an initiative into law, they may offer an alternative, or they may vote it down, in which case it would be placed on the ballot for voters to decide on.

The Washington Education Association has already given notice they will pounce on LGW’s biological definition of girl, echoing activists’ shrill warnings that girls’ sports for girls will necessarily involve invasive genital inspections that increase the risk of sexual abuse. This invented situation assumes these inspections will be done by random coaches or strangers on the sidelines just before a game. Which is a bizarre fabrication. “We’ve specified that verification of birth sex will be accomplished by the physician who conducts the sports physical all kids have to have before playing sports. To oppose that, the WEA would have to oppose pre-sports physicals.”

Rallies and a website, administrative staff and paid signature gatherers and legal advisors—LGW is not run on bake sales. It was established in 2022 by hedge fund manager Brian Heywood, though Littell says he is not the sole funder. Littell estimates LGW will be able to hit the 309,000 signature requirement for each initiative with an investment of about $3.5M—quite reasonable in the world of political action.

“This is so common sense, there isn’t much appetite on the other side to fight it,” Littell said. “If it had been Brian [Heywood] out there saying girls’ sports should be for girls, it would have been easier to fight. But a couple of high school girls saying, enough is enough—no one wants to disparage that message or those messengers. It’s just so wrong. We’ve given these girls a platform, because they are the true victims. They are being harassed just because they want to compete fairly and safely. It started out with a few, but now every time we have an event, a parent will come up and say, the same thing happened to my daughter.”
